West Virginia/JUCO/C.W. Post/Kean RB Jason Gwaltney (official thread)

The only reason he isnt the number one back in the country is because he played in a Wing T formation his whole career and the level of competition was suspect. At least that's my opinion.
Great point....but could you imagine him coming off of the wing on a counter trey or the double handoff play the Wing-T is known for? Full head of steam and two, possibly three, bulldozers leading the way:yow1:

There is no way I will mourn over losing a talented player who doesn't want to be a Buckeye. There are too many good kids who are coming into the program because they want to be here. If he comes, great. If not, it is his loss.

Petey's crew are his favorite coaches, the 1:44 a.m. call really impressed him, he doesn't care if there are 10 or 106,000 fans in the stands when he plays, he's wonders whether tOSU will be under sanction during his college career, he has pretty well decided where he's going and he suddenly doesn't care if he plays next year, so long as he's an impact player as a Sophomore. And he ducked Nebraska right after Marlon Lucky announced because he wants to be the only back taken in his class.

This tells us two thing pretty clearly:

1) He's a Trojan.

2) He's afraid of Maurice Wells.

See ya in the Rose Bowl, Jason.

Update on rivals. Gwaltney writes in his AA diary that he does not like the East's formations. Apparently they're playing a lot of shotgun and throwing the ball around. Jason actually says that he does not want to play in this kind of offense in college. Wants to play in a running formation and states "one of his leaders" is hurt because they play this way. I cant figure out who he's talking about. I know we have gone to the shotgun or shotginn a lot recently, but Jason didnt even see the Michigan or OK St. game, so I would think he still considers us a power I type offense. So is he talking about USC?

Interesting because he also says that his top 3 changes a lot and this formation thing looks to have thrown another wrench into his selection process.

USC has two of the last three Heisman winners, and both threw a lot and many, if not most, of their passes were from the shotgun. Although Gary Danielson mentioned near the start of The Game that OSU took more snaps from the shotgun 4-WR formation than from any other formation prior to The Game, we're definitely not noted as a shotgun passing team...whereas USC is.

we didn't run out of the shotgun once this year.

I don't think he meant run out of the shotgun, but rather run plays from the shotgun. And your never having a running play from the shotgun means that you don't run the ball as much, with as often as you take snaps out of the shotgun.

Gotcha ya....

I know SC hasn't run a play from shotgun in over 3 years.....I think he's starting to play some games with the interviewers...imo

Very true...he could pull a Jarrett...but he also said he wants to be the only RB in this class....I like Wells the best out of the runningbacks....he's highlight film is sick....Haven't really heard anything new other than SC is back in it with Ashley...I'm not that impressed with him, OSU and USC are, so he must be good....

Gwaltney's All-American Diary 2

Jason says no one was able to tackle him one on one. The worst hit he took was when "Cush" got him low around the ankles and Rico hit him high. He says that the offense is not set-up to let him show off his true talent, which is running north and south. He mentions how Toal scored 3 TDs last year out of the I-formation. He says this year they are running mostly passing plays and that the backs are not all that involved. He seems a little pissed about it too. Once again, he mentions how dominant the East O-line is. He closes by mentioning some of the players he's gotten to know a little better since yesterday. He mentions Eugene Monroe, Greg Paulus, and Melvin Alaeze. He closes by talking about how down-to-earth Patrick Turner is.
