There is the link.

He says he wants to room with Cushing so that doesn't sound good.
There was a post on the Gwaltney thread on BN that made mention of a "mystery school" moving up rapidly for Cushing and it wasn't one of the usual suspects.

Could it be OSU and we get both? With the staff asking Pettrey to wait until '06, it looks like they may be getting some additional commits that we weren't looking at before.

Just some food for thought...

There were posts in this thread that got split off into the WStripes and Mass JG Specualtion thread in the Open Discussion forum which showed that USC took six RBs (2 in 2002 and 4 in 2003) before last year.

Two of them have moved to fullback, one tore up his knee, and another wasn't on the team last year because of academics.

Edit: changed "the other" to "another"

Bottom line is USC has a minimum of four RBs (five if Washington returns), and since two were "moved" to fullback and we've seen that a FB can move back to TB and be effective (Brandon Joe), USC has plenty of RB depth. And as wstripes said in the split off thread, USC does not want to start a true freshman at RB. Add to that my aforementioned fact that USC has a top-3 Heisman candidate in the backfield, in addition to a proven power back, Gwaltney has no chance of starting, and very little chance of even seeing the field as a true freshman.

My feeling after reading that article is that this is a polite kid who is tired of the recruiting process.

-- 46% to USC?
-- tOSU's "laid-back" staff..but not too laid back
-- WVU will best prepare him for the NFL?

These are not in-depth, thought out answers...these are "whatever pops in my head so I can get off the phone" answers.

IMO, don't take too much from that article.

the cushing comments he made were telling.

however, there are some miami folks that think cushing is a silent to them and their big recruiting coup this season.

either way, if i had to toss a US Grant on it, I would definately put it on usc without thinking twice.

I know this is completely random, but I had a dream last night where it was finally announcement day. Jason got up on stage, said that he was going to "shock the world" with his announcement. He proceded to pick TCU, even though he didn't even have an offer from them. He then called TCU's coach and asked him if he could have a football scholarship. The coach said that he'd never heard of him, but then said "sure, what the heck. No one else wants to come here."

I think once Wednesday comes and goes, I need to take a break from these boards for a while......

New York isn't known for producing great football talent. This year, running back Jason Gwaltney leads a strong NY contingent and he's got three big-time programs on the hook.

North Babylon (N.Y.) tailback Jason Gwaltney (5-11, 235, 4.5, Scout.com's #8 RB, 4 stars) now says USC (12/10 official trip) and Ohio State (10/29) lead solidly over West Virginia (1/7, committed at one time)--this is the order in which he named his faves.

"Both USC and Ohio State lead solidly over West Virginia," says Gwaltney.

"There's about a 46% chance that I'm going out west to SC at this point.

"With USC, I'd have the chance to compete as a freshman and I wouldn't just be sitting on the bench. In the last two years they've played 32 freshman, and they've never had a redshirt recruit that's been from out of state.

"The weather there and the fact that they're back-to-back national champs puts them in good standing right now. Plus the recruiting class they've got this year is one that would be good to be involved with.

"I was just on the other line with Brian Cushing (linebacker) and we get along really well together. We both want to be roommates when we go off to school. He hasn't made a decision yet either, and I wouldn't say that he's going to end up just following me wherever I go (laughs).

"I like how the coaches at USC are straightforward with me and they tell me how it is. Plus, coach (Pete) Carroll wants a big back there.

"The running back situation at Ohio State is a big in for me next year. If I learned their scheme well enough I could be ready to start in their game opener against Texas next year.

"They play some great smash-mouth football and the coaching staff there is laid-back but not too much. They get after it when it's time and they've got some great players there too.

"West Virginia could get me ready for the pros in a way that these two other teams can't. They run their schemes out of the shotgun and I-formation. If I were to get recruited by a pro team then I'd have a good shot at knowing any system that I'd be put into."

Gwaltney has also officially visited Central Florida (12/3) and Michigan State (12/17). Final SR (10-1) stats: 328 carries/2,882 yds/45 TDs 2.7/860 SAT--March retest

Not really a positive article for tOSU.....this one is to close to call.

OK! What is Jasons phone number? One of us has to call him and talk some sense into him! I mean if he wants to start as a true freshman for a big contender then he truely only has one choice! OSU! He needs us just as much as we need him!
