I remember a particular part of the story where they had another horse (basically a male fluffer) whose job was to come into the stable and get the female all wound up and to make sure she wasn't going to be a kicker before they brought Storm Cat into the stable to finish the job. I don't recall them mentioning anything about artificial means but I could be wrong.

Barbaro's brilliant racing career and eight-month fight for survival won't soon be forgotten. There's already great interest in just how good Barbaro's kid brother can be - an untested, unnamed yearling in Lexington, Ky. Barbaro funds, aimed at equine research and preventing deadly laminitis, have been started, and there's talk of a museum.
