Weis's Play Calling in the ND BYU game

This post really got out of hand before I could reply to some of the earlier things, but, as one of those ND/tOSU fans, I wanted to make some clarifications...

ND should return 7 starters on offense next year, assuming all the 5th year eligibilities are utilized, and no one turns pro early.

It's Weis, with one "s". Think of the outrage if someone spelled is "Tresel"...(yes, I realize it's "Buckeye"Planet)

I think if ND and OSU played in the (bowl) game this year it would be a great game to watch. Ideally, as I'd like to see both teams win their bowl game, that won't happen.

Mili, we have USC, Miami, VTech and others on the future schedules. How come we don't combine them? Is it b/c we are pansies? Maybe LSU called up and wanted to fill our bye week in 06. Do they get to mock us for being afraid b/c we didn't schedule them in addition to Texas (and IIRC the bye week is during the big ten schedule).

However you want to spin it, we weren't that great in 2000 or 2001. Nebraska was great those two years (b/c before the 2001 season they were highly touted).

Look, ND has a tough schedule. Ours is also tough. You can make fun of ND, or say that they haven't beaten a tough opponent yet. But this 00 & 01 argument isn't holding water.

If LSU had offered to play us in our bye week next year, along with another one either in 2007 or close-by down the road and we declined, then yes, I'd say LSU could say we're dodging them. We've played OOC games during the conference season before and we're doing it again next year. I would highly doubt that LSU or any other major team in a power conference would just happen to have a bye week in their conference schedule that coincided with ours, so that's a moot point. But, you may have noticed that when we are scheduling big-name teams (USC, Miami (Fl), V-Tech, etc.), they are home/away series in consecutive years. You may have also noticed that we play both Syracuse and Miami (Fl) in 2010, so we don't purposely avoid having two solid OOC opponents on the same schedule as you alluded to in your LSU example.

My point is that Notre Dame and Ohio State did have two mutually open dates which lent to a home/away rematch of the 1995/1996 series. There was no excuse--zero, zip, zilch, nada--for Notre Dame to not agree. They had no problem in scheduling us for the 1995 and 1996 seasons when those seasons were essentially the same as the 2000 and 2001 seasons schedule-wise (common opponents were USC, Purdue, Boston College, Navy, Rutgers, Air Force, along with with perennial opponent Michigan being off the schedule), so why couldn't they schedule us in 2000 and 2001? That's not making fun of their schedule, it's stating fact, and only after CHIMP opened up the can of worms with his "Just played USC but afraid to play OSU! LMAO! ROF!!" comment.

If you think Miami stacks up with that Nebraska team, let alone Syracuse with Ohio State, then I guess there is no point in arguing. (edit: I clearly don't put much stock in cryami anymore tho)

I don't think we picked up Bowling Green b/c they were the most challenging possibility on the schedule. We already do a good job scheduling tough teams, and we found a good filler for our 06 schedule. I look at ND's schedule in 00 & 01 the same way.

If you want evidence of dodging, I believe Auburn wanted to schedule USC for the spot that was filled by Fresno State. Given USC's horrible schedule (especially before the domers surprised us), that was dodging.

From what I have heard 4 of the top 5 offensive lineman return, both backs and that includes the freshman fullback who has been getting the alot playing time as of late) Quinn, Samardizia and Rhema Mcknight.
Not sure about the TE but since 2 play all the time there should not be much of a drop-off.

OK, everyone knows that ND likes to go out and schedule various so -called powers (Miami, Texas, FSU, OSU , NEB, TENN and many others thru the years) so what if ND just wanted to add Nebraska in that mix ? Heck for all any of us know ND may have already been talking to Nebraska. Or the AD may have been already thinking about itand/or talking to other ND officials.

I wouldn't call it easy either though...some teams being down (Pitt, Washington, Michigan) hurt the schedule, but it is still very respectable.
Teams that suck: Pitt, Syracuse, Washington, BYU, Navy
Teams that aren't as good as they looked at the beginning of the year: Michigan, Purdue, Tenn
Teams that are better than they looked at the beginning of the year: MSU, Stanford
Teams as good as advertised: USC

If only somebody was saying this at the beginning of the year........
