Week 2 Games Discussion

Corn gonna Corn has replaced Sparty gonna Sparty.
One difference is Sparty would often race off to really good starts to the season before losing a bunch of games in embarrassing fashion. Corn is perpetually dog shit.
This is year five for Frost. How could they possibly have gotten this bad?
I really thought Frost would elevate them to being a consistent B1G West contender and make them a pretty consistent 9-10 win team. He turned UCF around rapidly and was considered one of the brighter young coaches in the country. It was almost universally hailed as a "home run hire." Goes to show you that even seemingly perfect hires don't always work out.

I don't know where they go from here. Frost should have worked. Nobody is gonna turn the clock back to the 90s, but now I'm not sure anybody can even make that program competitive again. They're buried under about 200 feet of manure.

The floor for Scott Frost was Pat Fitzgerald (if Nebraskas boosters could even accept that as their current place in the CFB hierarchy). He’s never even approached that.

It's shocking to me. Living in the heart of corn country, I witnessed their excitement first hand. They were over the moon. It has been a brutal slap to the face how much of a disaster he's been. I think 95% of their fans realize they're never going to be the juggernaut they were when they could lure prop 48 kids out of Cali and Texas to Lincoln. Right now, I think they'd be quite content with Bo Pelini results. I don't know that anyone can even get them back there, honestly. They have so much against them. Location isn't appealing. No local recruiting base. Admission standards are more rigorous than they were under Dr. Tom. Their history means fuck all to kids they're recruiting now as they weren't even born when they were winning Natty's.

Their best bet is to find a coach that can implement a good system and mine the transfer portal yearly for former blue chippers that just want to get on the field somewhere.

Well, I guess our own admission standards are harder than they’ve ever been, but we’re somehow doing OK.

I’m no dummy, but my transcripts weren’t outstanding because I got super fucking bored in high school because I found it too easy, so I stopped trying. My scores in 1993 would not get me into Ohio State today.

Speaking of how hard reffing is in real-time, the refs didn’t show at my youngest’s JH soccer match a week ago. We would forfeit unless we had refs, so another parent and I volunteered. As we were walking to the field level gate from the stands, I said “I’ll take the far sideline, the parents can yell at you.”

It is incredibly difficult to make those real-time decisions when there are so many bodies in your periphery at field level. Respect to all refs who suffer the abuse.

Get your eyes checked, you bum! You suck!

Respect to Nebraska for finally suspending their stupid touchdown balloon release celebration this season. Only 15 fucking years too late since scientists warned of helium shortages and how critical the element is to medicine, but good job finally I guess.

Not to mention that balloons are fucking terrible for the environment.

Another case of not centering your kicker. BYU had two plays to do it - Baylor would've called a time out. Even if they didn't, you still had time to run out the kicker.

Instead, they threw a couple of prayers into the end zone and the kicker missed from the left hash. Overtime.
