San Jose lost to Boise, beat UNLV, Boise and UNLV didn't play each other, and they all went 6-2 in conference.

Seems like the Spartans got a raw deal. They had to play both of those teams on the road and beat one of them.

If Nix or Penix balls out in the CCG and wins, it could put a lock on the Heisman.

Hoping FSU, Texas, Bama lose and maybe we can backdoor our way into the playoffs again?

I would love to see some more Marvin Harrison in meaningful games.

Awkward time between Commissioners and teams in CCGs:

Welcome to college football's most awkward Champ Week yet

And finally, let's take it up to Indianapolis for Michigan vs. Iowa. Do we even need to go over this one? Because it is still so going on. A maize-and-blue mess of such immediacy that it has seemingly dominated the headlines since Halloween. Jim Harbaugh, coach of the Wolverines, will return from punishment purgatory just in time to lead his team to perhaps its third consecutive Big Ten championship and third straight CFP appearance. He has been absent from the sidelines because of a sign-stealing scandal allegedly devised by a since-departed employee.

Harbaugh's three-game suspension was not handed down by the NCAA but rather the conference office, a decision fueled in no small part by the B1G cries of foul from the other league members. There was legal wrangling, marking the first time anyone can recall that a football team in the midst of winning a conference was also in the midst of suing that conference. Ultimately, the suit was dropped. But the Jim Halpert expression of "Is this really happening right now?" remains.

Speaking of faces, the faces of the Michigan vs. Big Ten fight have always been Harbaugh, naturally, and commissioner Tony Petitti, who has been on the job for all of six months. Now, if ESPN Analytics is to be believed, there is a 92.6% chance Petitti and Harbaugh will be standing shoulder to shoulder on the field of Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday evening, one greeted with cheers and the other with middle fingers by the fans of the newly crowned "Victors" of the conference. We'll let you guess which is which.

While I think that UW-UO is a play-in game for the number three seed, Washington winning does help our chances a little more solidly. That being said, I think Oregon has a much better chance to take out tcun in the semi than Washington, so they'll be my pick tonight. Again, it's necessary for whatever chance we might have, but UGA winning also keeps tcun out of the 1 seed and the likely semi layup against FSU.

Had Ewers not left Ohio State after just one year, he might well have been the Buckeyes’ starting quarterback this year, though his passer rating and yards per passing attempt this season are slightly lower than those of Kyle McCord.

QUINN EWERS VS. KYLE MCCORD 2023 STATS
QB % (CMP-ATT) YPG YPA TD INT RATING
Quinn Ewers 69.8 (213-305) 270.9 8.9 17 5 159.6
Kyle McCord 65.8 (229-348) 264.2 9.1 24 6 161.6

Ewers never actually threw a pass for the Buckeyes, but how he performs on Saturday will have a direct impact on Ohio State’s 2023 season, as a Texas win would leave the Buckeyes with no likely path into the playoff.

He also doesn't have MHJ and EE to throw to.

Three Games To Watch on Championship Weekend as an Ohio State fan

1. The Pac-12 Championship Game: As to which team should Ohio State fans should root for, it is my belief that the winner is guaranteed a spot in the College Football Playoff, no matter what. Yes, there are thoughts that Ohio State fans should root for Washington, to ensure that Oregon gets a second loss and would be ranked below Ohio State, but the reality is that Oregon is one of the better teams in the nation, and will leapfrog the Buckeyes if they defeat Washington.

2. The Big 12 Conference Championship Game: Texas is heavily favored by the oddsmakers, but hope is not completely lost for Ohio State fans. Oklahoma State has won eight of the last 10 games against Texas, so here is to rooting for Mike Gundy and the Cowboys.

3. The ACC Championship Game: Plain and simple, Ohio State fans need Florida State to lose

Land-Grant Holy Land says: As for how I believe it will turn out, I believe Georgia will win the SEC Championship Game over Alabama, while Michigan will win The Big Ten Championship Game over Iowa, securing their respective spots in the College Football Playoff as the top two seeds. As I wrote up above, I believe Oregon will win on Friday night against Washington, landing them third.

Louisville does enough against Florida State to win the ACC Championship, while Texas wins against Oklahoma State, securing their last Big 12 Championship. By virtue of Texas’ conference championship, the College Football Playoff committee rewards the Longhorns with the fourth and final spot in the College Football Playoff, leaving Ohio State fifth and on the outside looking in.

It may not be what Ohio State fans want to read, and I certainly hope to be proven wrong, but these are the kind of things that happen when a team does not secure their own destiny. Should both Florida State and Texas lose, the Buckeyes have a shot at sneaking in with that fourth seed. Hope for the best, but Ohio State fans should prepare for a likely Orange Bowl game versus Louisville on Dec. 30.
