Allow me to rephrase @Jake :
With the 12-team playoff starting next year, what is the point of keeping conference championship games for the teams and players involved?

Good point. Gonna be weird if a team rests players in the CCG. Hopefully, four teams getting a first round bye will be a deterrent.

Dropping a game and falling out of the top four won't be appealing. And if you're not in the top four, can you afford to risk losing?

Yep.

Going to have the same principles trickle down into end of year rivalry games.

Everything about CFB needs to be overhauled. FSU got the shaft.

You can’t bolt a playoff on top a bunch of unequal leagues, with unequal scheduling, and expect it to work well.

It’s a Frankenstein concoction right now but it throws off a bunch of money so the people who benefit from that money don’t really care how fair anything is.

Conference Champs get a 1st round bye. Other than that, money.
I understand you both.
I was just trying to figure out if it would possible to make the playoffs with one less game. Guess not.

If the expanded playoffs existed this year both Ohio State and Ped State would've made it. In fact, they'd have played each other.

But it looks like you're not the only one asking the question.

They are going to make play in games.

How else do you still make money off the weekend slot but not have your two best teams beat the shit out of each other?

You make a play in weekend type thing.
