Week 1 Games Discussion

It’s amazing how BTN can book games for 12:00, 3:30, and 7:00, and they all end on time or early. ESPN booked UNC/VT for 6:00 and MSU/NW for 9:00. Game 1 went only five minutes over its slim three hour allotted window despite being a one possession game with massive clock stoppages and 4th Q strategy. But game 2 is at 2:30 runtime and we’re only eight minutes into the 3rd Q, because there’s no bumper to run into.

Ohio St plays anyone on any channel at 8:00 and you know it’s going to be a four hour game.

Just more proof that marketing/ad guys are fucking evil.

We play a night game at 8:00 on any network and there is literally a full extra hour of commercials.

2007 was as fun a season as I can remember as a CFB fan. Bitter ending for us, but from week to.week, it was fucking wild.
I think BC was actually #2 at one point that year, too.
BC moved up to the #2 spot after #2 South Florida got beat at Rutgers. Crazy frickin’ season.
The following teams held a top-2 spot at some point in the AP Poll in 2007 (highest rank in parentheses):

Missouri (#1)
Kansas (#2)
California (#2)
West Virginia (#2)
Boston College (#2)
South Florida (#2, with 11 first place votes!)

Heading into the final week of the season, Missouri was #1 and West Virginia was #2; both teams lost their final games to spare us the worst BCS Championship ever.

South Carolina made it all the way up to #6 for a week, and Kentucky made it up to #8 twice in non-consecutive weeks.

Kansas actually had the best record of any Power5 school (12-1), but finished #7 in the final poll even after winning their bowl game.

Hawaii finished the regular season with a 12-0 record, good for #10 in the AP Poll, but got throttled by Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, 41-10, to finish #19.

Michigan began the season at #5, but something happened in Week 1....

It's almost unfathomable that in 2007, KU was 11-0, ranked #2 with one of the best offense in the country. They'd lose to Mizzou keeping them out of the Big-12 championship game, but would go on to best VT inn the Orange Bowl to finish 12-1 nd ranked #7.

07 is still probably the weirdest year ever. Fucking South Florida was #2 at some point too…..and then lost 3 straight games to Rutgers UConn and Cincinnati
I seriously need a 30 for 30 on the 2007 season. The teams, the players, the coaches, the rivalry games and upsets. Insane end to the year.

I believe BP had a “Chaos” thread and it somehow broke their way (only to end with the wrong result).

FCS South Dakota State is embarrassing Colorado State on their home turf, 35-10 in the 3rd quarter.

The FCS Missouri Valley Conference may be better than the Mountain West at this point with North Dakota State and Southern Illinois (among others).

Northwestern QB Hunter Johnson was the #18 overall recruit in 2017 by Rivals. Elite 11 participant and Army AA bowl MVP. Went to Clemson and completed 78% of his passes as the true frosh backup to Kelly Bryant.

I’ll be diplomatic and say that right now Johnson is merely serviceable completing 50% of his passes at Northwestern and looking like he doesn’t know the playbook.

NW really missing Ramsey and Bowser tonight.
