Went back to see this again. His foot hit the pylon before it landed in the end zone, so he was out of bounds before having a foot down or the ball crossing the plane. That’s what the ref said after the review, so they did get it right.

You’re right about the extended goal line, as I posted earlier.
Hitting the pylon is inbounds. Especially when you hit it on the inside. It’s a weird rule because the pylons are just outside the field of play. But that’s the rule. Watch a bunch of football games this season and you’ll see that exact same play get ruled a TD. And I’m not biased because I’m rooting for the other team. I didn’t want the Illini to score.
