Wearing jerseys to games: yes or no?

Should grown men (out of college) wear team jerseys?

  • Why not? It's perfectly normal game attire.

First off, by voting "why not", the assumption is that the jersey is not ginormous and that you know enough to wear a shirt underneath it and so on. You also do not tuck it into your jeans so that you've got this huge wad of shirt bulging around your hips.

I've had this discussion with some folks before. There seems to be (at least to me) a recent trend of people thinking that it's stupid for grown men to wear their team's jersey to a football game. The reasons range from "it's dorky" to thinking it looks rather "white trash" or redneckish or that it looks like an old dude living vicariously through a bunch of kids.

I've attended football games for over 25 years, both college and NFL. I don't wear a jersey everytime as it depends on the weather and other considerations. But I do wear one frequently. It's just part of the atmosphere to me. I don't know where this notion of wearing a polo shirt and khakis while sipping chardonnay became the official gameday attire, but it smacks of snobbery to me.

What do you guys think? Is it much ado about nothing or is this a widespread view that I've been heretofore clueless about?

IMO, it depends on the type of jersey. Is it just a red mesh shirt with no number or team affiliation? If thats the case, id say yeah, a lil trashy.
On the other end of the spectrum from "ginormous", does it come at least two or so inches below the belt line, i.e. is it a "cut-off"? if so, and worn in conjunction with cut off jean shorts, then very, very trashy. not everyone can afford an authentic 150$ nike jersey, but i really dont like the cheap no-name brand jerseys that dont even resemble the real thing.

wow, i never realized how much thought i put into this subject.
damn, i need to get a life:(

the jersey in the pic is a replica. those are not a punishable offense by the fashion police.

the next step up are authentic maybe, ive seen them go for around 70$. the best they sell are around 150$, not sure what they are labled as.

btw, you dont have to be a clothes cop to be disgusted by cut off jean shorts and a cut off red see through numberless jersey on a grown man.:sick1:
its just nasty.

I'm not a fan of wearing jerseys at all. A lot of my friends wear them.

Two reasons:

1) The player doesn't get a lick of the money that you pay for the Jersey.

2) I have a problem seeing a grown man wearing a jersey of an 18-22 year
old boy/man.

Seems a little faggish to me.

what if the jersey no longer represents any player? or, what if its a throwback, ala chris carter, speilman, or eddie?

I agree, get your own shit put on it. On this subject, does anyone know where to get an AUTHENTIC personalized jersey? I've never seen one that will personalize the number and the name on the back, all tackle-twill (game worn-type quality).
