We are not out yet!!

I hate to say it; but yes we are, we were out of it as soon as the final clock struck :00 in the Michigan State/Penn State game.

With 5 power conferences and only 4 CFP slots; the selection committee is not going to pass over a conference champion in favor of a team that didn't even make their own championship game (nor should they).

So If Bama and Stanford both lose?

Keep in mind, our only loss is on a last second FG to potentially the number 2 or 3 team in the country in a nasty weather condition game. The Committee knows that the teams will be playing in a nice weather climate stadium, and OSU is hot right now like they were last year at this time...and they also know that we can win it all. As someone else has mentioned, OSU has rating power...$$$$$. I can see UNC passes us if they win, but the argument will be there that they lost to a 3-9 team. No way Stanford should pass us with two losses. So our best chance is FL play an amazing game and beat satanbama.

Here's how. Va Tech is a non conference game; losing to them (basically) doesn't effect your chances of being conference champion. Losing to Michigan State which is a conference game (in your same division) gives them the tiebreaker and eliminates you from being in the conference championship game and competing for a conference championship.

And to piggy back, it also means we don't have the big win over MSU that we had last year. Clearly, the committee cares more about big wins rather than bad/mediocre losses. I actually tend to agree with this rationale, and I think most of Buckeye nation did last year as well when debating whether or not we should get in over TCU (I remember vividly all of the sarcastic posts about a "good loss"). Look, we have 1 and only 1 win that is worth a damn, and that is against a 3 loss scUM team. We may look like the best team in the nation, and I do think we would win the playoff if we got in...but there is not much on our resume proving that. Like ORD said, the only thing that gets us in is politics/$$$ or complete chaos.

Understand what you're saying, but we played in the same weather as Sparty last Saturday. That can't be a factor in the decision. The flip side to that is we lost at home against Sparty's #2 & # 3 QB, although it was a close game. Also, I wouldn't say that OSU is "hot" right now considering their body of work this year and last weeks game vs. Sparty. The UM game was great, but too little too late.

Also keep in mind that we lost to an equally as bad VT team last year (when lookin at UNC this year) but we won the BIG and still barely made it.

I think we're out of the playoff and that's just something we have to look in the mirror about and accept. We screwed it up at home against Sparty. Hope I'm wrong and know we still have a slim chance, but not looking good. We have to earn it.

I'll gladly take a bowl game vs ND - can never get enough of stomping their guts out!

The irony here is that there are currently 6 B1G teams ranked (AP & Coaches polls) and we didn't play 3 of them i.e. Iowa, Wisky, and Northwestern). Obviously you can't play yourself so that only left Sparty and scUM; and as you said our best win was against 3 loss scUM team. The flip side is that if we had played Iowa, Wisky, and/or Northwestern; I believe that we would have beaten them, which would have given them another loss that would likely have bumped them out of the top 25 rankings, etc.

Because ND was a contender before losing Michigan already had 2 losses and is now down somewhere with the ole piss of the world
ND was a fringe contender (#6) and in fact had dropped two spots from their previous ranking of #4 just before they lost to Stanford. Michigan at #10 was only four spots below ND, and had risen two spots from their previous ranking of #12. Had we just squeaked by Michigan I could see your point, but we dominated them from the middle of the second quarter to the end.

And I did say 6 and 7 are interchangeable. But if they win their conference and a spot opens in the top 4 they will get it over tOSU
Then you could've listed OSU ahead of Stanford. If Stanford struggles with 4-loss USC, they will not jump us, conference champion or not.

Just sayin': After the the 4 slots in the CFP, the Rose Bowl is the top prize. I'm pulling for Ohio State to play in the Rose Bowl vs the PAC12 Champion (Stanford or USC).
i.e. just like the in old days:banger:

I honestly don't see how Stanford gets in over Ohio State with two losses in the regular season, conference championship or no. If one of their losses was a close one in the Pac-12 Championship I could see it. You're basically sending the message that losses don't even matter anymore.
Why is this a discussion? We are both out of it. UNC/Clemson, Bama, Iowa/MSU, Oklahoma. Write it in stone. This ain't changing. UNC has the spot over both of us. Losses matter, and the extra one keeps stanford out. They won't keep a 1 loss conference champ out for a 1 loss non conference champ UNLESS the conference champ has looked like complete dog shit all year. Not the case here. The Stanford/OSU question ONLY comes up if Florida beats Bama. Does anyone even see a remote possibility of that happening? Even if Bama loses Henry and Coker, if Bama can score more than 3, they win it. Florida would stand a better shot if they held open tryouts for the QB position this week to go with the kicker.
