Visiting LSU fans: please read

So it's possible that you'll have a 2 quarterback system with 1 mobile quarterback come game time?

Possible but not likely...I have watched LSU a ton this year and I think our offenses are very similar apart from Perriloux. OSU will grind it out on the ground with a big physical back in Chris Wells...LSU will grind it out on the ground with a physical Jacob Hester. We both have talented WR's and veteran QB's that have waited their turns. Only difference in my opinion is that Chris Wells is more of a homerun threat than Hester and Perriloux adds another dimension that OSU doesn't employ. Great matchup in the trenches as I think LSU has the best DL in the country and OSU has the best OL in the country. LSU also has a talented secondary that should test our WR's.
On the flipside, OSU has great DE's but the DT's are a concern imo. We have been inconsistent on stopping the run inside and a big back like Hester could have success against us. I feel we match up well in the passing attack with Jenkins covering Doucet (he has shutdown basically every WR the last couple of years, especially this year) and the rest of our secondary is tough as well. Running to the perimeter ain't gunna happen in this game, so I'm more worried about Hester up the middle consistently over Holliday taking one to the house outside.
Honestly, special teams really concern me. Holliday is a huge threat on kickoff returns and we have given up some big ones. It seems we either kill someone or give up a huge return.
Overall though this is the matchup I wanted to see. I really just want to win the game but I want to quit talking about how annoyed we are over the SEC being hyped up and actually beat them on the field. Plus, redemption would be quite sweet over an SEC team. Beyond all that, both have similar teams that should match up well and make for one heck of a National Championship game.

Do you guys think (as a whole) Miles' offense is too "gimmicky"? Fake field goals, Fake punts, going for it almost every 4th down, etc.

LSU's offense is not gimmicky. Its essentially a straight ahead running team but they do it in so many ways it makes them hard to get a read on imo. I don't know for sure but I'd be willing to wager LSU is very difficult to scout tendency wise. Miles is tough to try and guess along with.

I'll say this, that fake punt that worked vs UT, you could see coming a mile away live. I still can't believe it worked.

If you look at what Les Miles does on downs 1-3, he is very much not gimicky. He is a standard every day coach on downs 1-3. He runs the ball effectively through the middle and with option pitches. He takes about as many shots downfield passing the ball as any other coach in the league.

Les Miles only gets gutsy at sexy times to be gutsy.

You guys are a great team in what I would consider an average conference which is the reason for all of the smack talk. Kind of like USC in the Pac-10. But when the teams go head to head, we realize that we are dealing with a much more talented team than the rest of the conference.

Anyone on here have time to type up or link me to a position by position scouting report of OSU? I want to learn more about the team but I know next to nothing about the defense besides Laurinitis and Jenkins. Offense I know Boeckman, Wells, Robiskie and Hartline, but not much info on the O-line. I will of course type up a scouting report of LSU for you guys in this thread.

I like Miles going for it. Statistically, it is better to go for it on a 4rth and one or two rather than punting it. I actually like that he will go against convention and isn't afraid to answer to it if things don't go his way. Most coaches would just rather go the safe route instead of having to answer a question. I really don't think LSU has a very gimmicky offense at all, we'll do some gimicky stuff with Holliday maybe that is it. I agree that even when we have a hot rb, he will pull him and put back in hester, and that does drive a lot of lsu fans crazy, but he just has that much faith in him i guess.

This is not exactly what you're looking for (more exhaustive on the opponents), but is a decent start. Check out the game previews found here and look at the unit comparisons:

I'll try to type up something quick for you as well.

Not trying to bust balls......I'd be interested to see what you have stats wise that shows its better to go for it on 4th and short rather than punt.

Hello everyone. Just registering here for the first time. I heard about your site on our forum, TigerForums.com - LSU football - LSU sports - LSU Tigers - LSU message board. I was disappointed to hear that some alleged LSU fans had shown up here and were causing trouble. Certainly no LSU fan should do that. I assume this is a fair board that wants to discuss football, and, in particular, the upcoming MNC between our two schools. As many of you know, we will have plenty of people gunning for us over our selections to the MNC, but who cares? I am only worried about our two schools while hoping that the SEC represents throughout the bowl season (yes, that means I'll be cheering for Mr. Jorts to destroy Michigan, if you don't know how jorts is, let me know :) ).

At any rate, it'll be a long month. I look forward to some good discussion between us. I hope many of you get to go to my hometown for the game, but I must say that an MNC with LSU in NOLA is AWESOME (I was at the OU BCSCG in 2003/04).

Also, if you want quality LSU talk, check out our board, which I have listed above. The LSU crowd you are seeing, probably comes from the nola.com crowd, which is a notoriously obnoxious bulletin board with no real flow for anything. Anyone can post there and say pretty much whatever they want.

PLANNING on it. I think it will be a great game, but the scary thing with us, is that Jan 7, we will be completely healthy. The only reason of our late season fade was for that fact alone (injuries). We will be at full force, the way we were against VT. Cant wait to see what happens
