Verizon & Android news

Got my Droid today, so far, nice phone, the Wifi is nice for stuff around the house, the phone itself is really fast and pretty easy to navigate. I have never used an iphone or ipod touch so for me it's a pretty new experience to have a touch screen phone that's actually comfortable and easy to use.

Plan to try it out in the next week. How do you like the multi-touch support in 3rd party apps? Hopefully that is supported by standard apps in a future version of the OS.

Anyone pick up the Droid today? I looked at them at the VZ store, they're pretty slick. More impressive than I originally thought.

Guilty as charged, I have been playing with it all day. On my blackberry, I utilized a lot of googles applications so the migration is pretty easy. It's heavily integrated to a google account, the music player seems cool, the widgets add some cool functionality to some of the applications, like the ability to add control buttons for your media player to the home screen. After playing with it for a bit, it's odd that it would be compared to the iphone. Google seems to have decided to go after a different market, as opposed to be a music downloading, tv-show syncing, media machine, google went more with the idea of being completely integrated with their cloud and other online services.

It has an easy to use media player, and a fucking awesome screen, but no sync with a popular media player, and even though there is a link to the amazon music store, it's not really pushed like itunes is.

Again this is my impression after one day, and it's also based on my needs.

How is the battery life?

edit: Oops didn't see JWinslow's post up there. I would still like to know more about it though.

Well, I haven't really given the battery a full test. I was at the Verizon store when they opened, got the phone and then went to work, so it never really got to charge.

I am sure next week I will get more chances to see how long it lasts, this weekend i'll be watching football and other crap like that.

I saw a YouTube video of a movie being played on the Droid; it looked great. The screen resolution is very clear.

I have played with the video camera and the camera, the camera isn't bad, but it's not really good. Some day pics I took were great, the night pics were actually worse than my 2 megapixel blackberry curve. Now, the Video camera on the other hand, that was just fucking awesome, at night or day. This makes me think that google will address the camera problems, the response, and the timing for the flash and hopefully fix the overall quality.

On one other note, the application loading and response is faster than any phone I have ever seen, your response is almost instant, you'll notice the lack of splash screens in a lot of common apps that's due to the fact that the phone doesn't need to spend forever loading in the background, it's a pretty fucking powerful little device.

They don't attack the phone, they attack the network. Even in it the misfits commercial, they say its a cool phone, why are you here? The map shows up. The latest rumor out there has a smaller iPhone coming to VZW. They're being pretty careful to attack AT&T, not the iPhone. Setting up marketing campaign to differentiate themselves if they get the iPhone.

For the record, I am not a VZW fan boy, and like AT&T very much. But VZW has their game together with this advertising strategy.

You're right, I wasn't thinking clearly after the first watch. Lack of sleep from a drunk weekend is my defense

I agree, these ads don't suck.

It's interesting to see VZW slowly changing it's business plan around to adapt, something I swore would never happen and that if you were on Verizon you were pretty much fucked phone wise. Now they are boasting they are the "open network" allowing people to use apps like Google Voice that other carriers, like ATT, are not supporting.
