Verizon & Android news

The oddest thing about the battery life is that it's standby time is less than any of the other phones. Being able to carry extra batteries is also a huge advantage for the droid.

It would be hard for me to decide between an iphone and a droid though. I've had a ipod for a while and all of my music is wrapped up in itunes(most of it isn't bought though) and a movie I've bought in itunes. Does anybody know what music program it would work with?

If you downloaded them int he mp3 format they should play just fine.

I'm going to buy one of these.. Been too long of a wait for Verizon customers and I'm about fed up with LG products... They all end the same way, restarting without pressing anything, and memory issues... I'll end up paying close to 300 at the store and have to wait it out on the rebate. But I'm pretty excited to get a phone as sweet as this.

It's still criminal with the amount they get away with when charging for data/messaging. $20 for text messaging (unlimited) is [censored]ing highway robbery.

Agreed... Hell their internet/entertainment package ($29.99) is highway robbery too.

Exactly... Bought mine in August of last year... Started having problems around June this year, traded it for a new one somehow... This new phone has been nothing but problems. Tried filing a claim, and apparently the insurance coverage I have doesn't give you a direct replacement... I would have to get an enV2... No thanks. I'll go with the Droid.

This won't be the first time I've used a Motorola. I've used the Razr and Krazr... Loved the Razr. Hated the Krazr.

Motorola DROID Review (Phone Arena Reviews)

6 page review, high marks from phonearena.com, but this may be the most promising aspect for VZW customers like myself:
It's almost unfathomable to see Verizon tie the knot with Android – especially seeing how the carrier passed up the iPhone and usually packs on its applications on smartphones. The obvious comparisons will be made between the DROID and other premier handsets available on the market, including ones that are already part of the Android lineup. Verizon has definitely got itself a jewel in the form of the Motorola DROID and will most likely provide some much needed attention to the open platform. In doing so, it shows Verizon's commitment in lessening their control on how a phone should be retrofitted with software out of the box. As for Motorola, the hype and talk around this phone lives up to the expectations.
Battery life is a bit behind the iphone, but it also has swappable batteries.

AT&T Suing Verizon Because "Map" Ad Is Confusing to Dumb People (and Lawyers) - 3G - Gizmodo

How about investing in a competitive network instead of suing people who expose your weaknesses?

I guess they've got to try something before their iBellcow - and last roadblock stopping Verizon from becoming a monopoly - comes to Big Red.
A Verizon Wireless ad shows a beefy Verizon 3G map next to a less impressive AT&T 3G map. AT&T is suing, saying it leads people to believe AT&T has no phone service outside of its (admittedly skimpier) 3G areas. Now, the "There's a Map for That" ad focuses on 3G alone, and the discussion is about 3G services, including video. But the charge AT&T makes is that people who watch the ad are being deliberately led to thinking that in the white spaces, there's no AT&T phone service at all. Here's the accusation:
Consumers are interpreting the white or blank space on the maps to mean that AT&T customers who are not in an AT&T "3G" coverage area have no wireless coverage whatsoever, and therefore have no ability to use their wireless devices for any purposes in vast areas of the country. This interpretation is not surprising as Verizon, in its own coverage maps, uses white space to inform customers that no coverage of any kind exists.
The thing is, this is somewhat tricky to prove, but it sounds wrong. There are areas of Verizon voice coverage that are not marked as red in the map in the commercial, if my squint-eye human-instrument comparison test is accurate. Try it for yourself. Does the map up top better resemble the one in blue and yellow (but not green), which shows broadband, aka 3G? Or the one in red, which shows voice and messaging?

..wow! You really can sue for just about anything. I'm hoping that whichever judge eventually gets this case doesn't get confused too. It could lead to all sorts of ad-legal-warfare.
The ad specifically says 3G coverage. If they want to get in to misleading ads, let's bring up ATT's fine print at the bottom of their "unlimited data plan" commercials

I read over this on gizmodo, the reason ATT seems pissed is because they feel the ad makes it look like they don't have phone service in other areas. However, the add is accurate for full 3G max speed coverage. It is what it is, but good luck ATT, reminds me of when McDonalds sued Burger King when I was a kid because of the "Whopper Beats the Big Mac" ad campaign they ran.
