There's a way you can upgrade and keep your unlimited, as I just did, if you have a family plan with another phone which does not have unlimited data. And you can continue updating and retaining unlimited data forever.

I know, because I have verified I still have unlimited data.
Interesting. So her upgrade doesn't change your grandfathered plan, which you promptly use to steal her phone. My wife is on a feature phone as well :sneaky:

That is correct. And the salesperson at Best Buy knew exactly what to do in order to make it happen (as did I, but having her do it made the process absolutely painless).

I haven't been paying attention, but hopefully some here have... if I want more of a tablet than a phone, but still need basic phone functions, is the Note II still the best bet? Anything worth waiting for?

Nothing really great on the Horizon, like I said, I love my Note II it has turned my ipad into a paperweight.

I'd give the HTC One a hard look as well. I really like the idea of a metal body. My nexus one had it and that thing was a tank, it took all kinds of abuse. The s4 basically looks like an updated version of the s3. Same design (little bigger) and new software. I have a s3 and I think most of the features Samsung implements in touchwiz is crap/fluff/bloat. I rooted within a month and installed cyanogenmod.

i would seriously consider the HTC one but as far as i know its only available on sprint and T mobile...i have verizon so ive heard it wont be out till later in the year...i have a bionic right now so i dont mind the plastic back...what i do like about the s4 is the removable battery and the camera looks really nice...theres some other features for it like the swipe feature and a feature for the camera that takes 100 shots in 4 seconds which would be sweet for snowboarding and other stuff...even if its not a big upgrade over the s3, its a huge upgrade over my bionic so i would be happy

After deciding to take my Note II swimming, I grabbed the xperia Z, great display, nice feeling phone, a little smaller than the Note (5 Inches) but a lot less bloatware, call me impressed. Oh yeah, and it's waterproof :p

So, the new Verizon update for the S3 has wrecked a ton of people- 4.1.2 blows.

For me, it all started after 12 hours of perfect functioning. After that, my volume disappeared... headphones and speaker at about 40% of what they were before (and no way to fix with an app... thanks to the new update). I know that this is a Jelly Bean thing, but wow- I should be able to hear the phone ring, right?

One day later, my battery life started to go sketchy... 40% usage in only 2 hours.

Yesterday, my ability to hold a 4G signal disappeared.

Today, I can't get wifi to work and I keep dropping/missing calls. No need to fix the volume issue then, I guess.

I know I'm not alone, but still.... May need CeMo to help me (finally) switch to Cyogen or something.
