I am told by a subscriber to sportsbetting.com that their early odds on who wins the next BCS championship are as follows:

USC 6-5
Ohio State 8-1
Oklahoma 10-1
Texas 12-1
Miami, Michigan, LSU 15-1

I don't bet, but I always check on what those guys think.

Not bad for a team that about six months ago got its ass handed to them at Iowa to go to 0-3 in conference and 3-3 overall, with chicken-littles crying for Tressel's head.
I said all last season that because of youth we'd have peaks and valleys and by the time of THE game we'd be awesome.
Now I'm so excited about this year. What will the oddsmakers do if/when we pound Texas?

I saw the vegas odds too and we were #2 for 2005 right after the season closed. One has to think that our stock will only increase as Smith, Dukes, our DL, etc come into their own.

But agreed, it is a little surprising that we're #2. Part of that is that there really isn't a lot of strong competition out there for top teams returning most of their talent.

Gambling is all about speculation. The fact that we might be number 2 is in no way indicative of a belief that we are the second best team in the nation. It is indicative of a belief that the Bucks have lots of "upside," if you can stand the term. In other words, we are believed to have a higher probability of all things playing out well.

Think about it. You can probably name a couple of teams that will be ranked ahead of us next year. But name a program other than USC which has a reasonable chance to run the table. None of the Florida schools is a likely candidate because they are about even and play each other. Texas has two tough games, and will probably lose at least one. If the odds were to MAKE it to the BCS championship, Oklahoma might be higher. Auburn falls off. Georgia maybe could make a run. Even Iowa might make a run. I would probably give Georgia and Iowa better odds than Miami or Michigan.

Talentwise we are at least #2. Schedule wise..........we'll see.
That statement would suggest that we could argue that we have MORE talent than USC and that no one other than USC has a legitimate claim to have more talent than we do. Hogwash on both accounts. I like the enthusiasm, though.

Georgia and Iowa? Come on, now, fellas.

Georgia lost ALL of their stars, and this will be their rebuilding year.

Iowa? D-Line is DEMOLISHED, and their TB situation is probably worse than ours right now. WR corp is decent, as is the LB corp.

I would DEFINITELY give Miami and Michigan better odds of making it to a BCS bowl than those two teams.
