I have an amazing amount of respect for Oklahoma and LSU.

Neither touch OSU in regards to how they professionally develop players for the NFL. I'm talking weight and conditioning, X's and O's, learned concepts, and experience within the coaching staff.

In some ways, LSU caught lightening in a bottle last year with Joe Brady and Joey Burrow aligning. We've seen what has happened with the staff turnover after last year.

I love Lincoln Riley, but he has zero NFL experience, and largely wins with what most would consider are college concepts (tons of misdirection that worl in college, bu tnot something that can be game-planned for an entire game at the NFL level).

Nick Saban and to a lesser degree Dabo is right there with Day and there's just no way around that. But time is on our side......as long as we can keep Day from looking at the NFL. Dabo is riding the Trevor Lawrence wave, but I'd have huge concerns once he has move don. I have zero concerns about OSU and their QB development.

OSU is a special special place right now. Every unit is getting elite training and knowledge that will prepare them for NFL.

You’re also forgetting at LSU the lightning in that bottle wasn’t just Brady and Burrow. You’re forgetting that top to bottom outside of OSU, LSU had the most talent in CFB. And the draft showed as much. And not just on offense, they lost Dave Aranda who was a top DC and a ton on defense. And Orgeron is an above average HC.
And I’ll give it to Dabo on QB development but not so much OL development. Clemson has been elite at QB since Tahj Boyd, then to Watson, now to Lawrence and you’re forgetting about true fresh DJ Uigeleilei who could be as good as all of them.

But as far as teams that produce OL in the NFL between all 4 teams, OSU is lapping the other 3.

I have Leigh as a guy who is out of the class for now, but just could easily see us take the lead with a good visit. Relationships with the other commits and campus atmosphere seems to be everything for Leigh, so we've gotta get him to Cbus and show him a good time. Hope he makes it next weekend, landing Leigh would more than make up for the misses we've had at OL in this class.

This sounds strange as hell but remember this is 2020 and nothing is strange anymore...it seems the Leigh brothers' future football team may be decided by their mother's boss granting her a 'personal day'.

LSU has put a ton of players into the NFL and many of them flourish there. You’re just dead wrong if you assert that they don’t prepare players for the NFL.

They literally have the most fertile recruiting ground in the entire US. More NFL players per capita come from Louisiana than any other state.

They do put a bunch of players into the NFL, and many elite ones. Until Joey Burrow and Joe Brady destroyed teams last year, how many of them competed for titles since 2007? How many offensive players were extremely relevant, until they made it to the NFL? Once Les Miles went on his skid, they hit a rough patch where they had the talent, but it wasn't translating to titles. Now they've got Coach O, which was amazing last year with a grad transfer QB and one of the brightest young minds in football, and we've seen what they look this year. As an incoming recruit, I'd be a little tentative about player development with all of the losses in the coaching staff. A hallmark of an amazing program is maintaining a level of excellence even during staff turnover.

OSU had a blip going from Tressel to Fickel, but knocked it out of the park with Meyer and now Day.

Even with the Natty last year, I'm not necessarily sold on LSU long-term......because Joe Brady and Burrow were a special tandem where the stars aligned. Just my opinion. I'd also point out, since 2000 no program has touched OSU in terms of draft picks. We've had 141 players selected since 2000. #2 is Bama at 127 and LSU #3 at 126. And that is with Bama and LSU having a built in recruiting advantage with being in the Southeast. That's a testament to our player development.

You seem to know a lot about LSU players. Can you tell me why every one of them that has recently played for the Browns has either missed huge chunks of seasons ...G.Williams,3 games total last two seasons, G.Delpit, 0 games total, J.Phillips,1.5 games total, and also Landry and Beckham who are seldom able to practice during the week but seem to be able to drag themselves onto the field for games. Just bad luck I guess.

I don't think NFL injury history is attributable to their college, IMO. I'd say offensively, it's more curious why OBJ was good at LSU but not elite. Jarvis Landry was good at LSU but not elite. I mean, these guys have been pro-bowlers in NFL, but didn't dominate anywhere close to what you'd expect at college level.

BTW, it's not like OSU is having great success with injuries this year either. It's crazy how many OSU guys are currently on IR.

Scout364: Is the optimism real about Leigh?

Helwagen: Yes, from what I heard today he definitely could be coming to the Buckeye Bash this weekend. Maybe he is looking for a family type atmosphere and that's what Jack Sawyer and the kids/families working on this Bash are trying to convey.

Tristan Leigh is the No. 11 overall prospect and one of the nation's best OT prospects out of Virginia. Would be a huge get for the offensive line to add a player of his ability and caliber. LSU, Clemson and Oklahoma seem to be the biggest competitors for him.



Ohio State and its football program are still unable to host recruits on visits due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the dead period that is in place because of it. However, recruits are not prohibited from visiting campuses on their own time.

One of the biggest names to look out for this weekend is 2021 five-star offensive tackle Tristan Leigh (Fairfax, VA/Robinson secondary) and if he and his family will be able to make the trip. Leigh recently spoke to Adam Friedman of rivals.com and confirmed he is planning on making the visit this weekend with his family.

Leigh has kept his recruitment rather close to the vest, but there have been tea leaves to read as to who his true contenders are. Early in his recruitment, Ohio State appeared to be the favorite to land him. However, in the last few months, the Buckeyes have lost momentum and LSU and Oklahoma have appeared to jump into the driver’s seat.

Now, it appears the momentum LSU had built is starting to dwindle and Ohio State may still be in the running. When speaking with Friedman, Leigh had the following to say about Ohio State:

“If my mom can get off of work next weekend, I’m pretty confident we’ll go (to Ohio State),” Leigh said. “It’s not 100-percent but I really hope we can go so I can get a feel for what the other commits are like and just be in the Columbus area.

“I went for a game last year so I got sort of a feel for it but with these types of visits it’s kind of hard because there are no games and you can’t see the coaches,” he said. “Honestly, my main things are seeing who I would be playing with, what the vibe is in Columbus, and how people act.

“Most recently they’ve been talking to me constantly about the opportunity at the tackle position because they’re not as solid as they were last year,” said Leigh. “Recently I’ve been watching film with coach Stud a lot. He doesn’t miss. If you go to him he’s going to develop you and get you to where you need to be. Based off his track record, I don’t doubt him.

While Ohio State is still a long shot in the race for Leigh’s services, a strong visit this weekend could propel them to the front of the pack, similar to how Oklahoma began gaining momentum. Columbus is set to have a special atmosphere and Ohio State has a real chance to win in multiple ways Saturday.

The cancellation of the All Star game in Jan. will make it interesting where and when future commits like Tristan will now announce. Not sure how many were going to announce in San Antonio ...I think it's usually around half a dozen...but their plans will now change.

There does seem to be some growing optimism in the Ohio State efforts to recruit 5-star offensive tackle Tristan Leigh, but it’s hard to pinpoint exactly the reasons behind it.

Ohio State has always done a good job recruiting the nation’s No. 4-ranked offensive tackle, but as we wrote about here two weeks ago, his recruitment has been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for Ryan Day, Greg Studrawa and the rest of the coaching staff in Columbus. There have been bouts of momentum followed by lulls where the Buckeyes seemed almost entirely out of the conversation for the 6-foot-5, 290-pound Virginian.

With Leigh coming to Columbus this weekend for the upcoming Buckeyes Bash — his second trip to the city — theres’s now a tangible reason for Ohio State to feel better than before.

Leigh, his brother Aidan — a 2023 prospect who has a Buckeyes offer — and their mother Laura wouldn’t be coming to visit and be a part of the weekend’s festivities if there wasn’t a real, honest-to-goodness interest in Ohio State with two months to go before the first signing period in December. There’s no need for an expert to read those tea leaves, because they’re pretty obvious.

The reality is that Tristan Leigh has remained interested in Ohio State. This weekend’s visit, even without the chance to talk with coaches or visit the program’s incredible facilities, has the potential to really turn the tide in the Buckeyes direction. There’s a built-in advantage for the Buckeyes because of his proximity to home. And the area that Ohio State has trailed in — relationships with recruits and their families — is now on the clock. There’s a big-time opportunity for the Buckeyes to make a move. Maybe, just maybe, they can surpass LSU and Oklahoma for his eventual commitment and signing.

Thanks Script, glad to hear that LSU is waning, and tOSU is surging. At least for now. Love the idea of a recruit hosting the Buckeye Bash, in the midst of this Covid pandemic. Sort of wondering if some of the recruits/players parents are 'chaperoning' this shindig? The players parents have always been an 'ace in the hole' kinda thing, where the kids chill, the parents are questioning the players parents as to what's really happening.....there used to be a semi-formal circle of parents. Would think that Scott Sr (if he's around town) would be huge. Anyway, it's a great way to skirt the visit moritorium. Are these Bashers able to be part of the 2,000 allowed in the stadium? Go Bucks!
