Utah -5.5 at Notre Ame (ov/un 53.5) 2:30 ET, NBC

Gotta say this game was a hell of a lot of fun to be at. Utah may have been overrated, but a win is a win regardless. I'm usually in the boxed seats, and theres sometimes a lot of the older alumni that don't make much ruckus down there, but it looks like they left for Florida already and traded their tickets to the younger family members. The stadium was actually fired up, more than most of the games I've been to all season. Hard to believe the stadium can't get fired up over a rival like Stanford sometimes, but it felt that way this year in a lot of games. The crowd and the defense were alive, Teo was keeping the energy up until the end of the 4th quarter.

Utah did a lot to shoot themselves in the foot, to be honest. Lot of missed passes, could have been due to the wet weather, but Utah looked rattled in this game. Could have been the loss last week, the weather, or it could have been the big stadium (To my knowledge the biggest team Utah played this year was Pitt at 65,000 Heinz Field), but they did not look very good.

The rest of the season doesn't look very good. While the offense did well enough against Utah, we're down to Floyd as the only starting skill player on offense. TJ Jones could be back, but we're down that WR position, Riddick at WR, Rudolph at TE, Allen at RB, and Crist at QB. The defense is going to be facing the triple option against Army next week, and if they haven't learned their lesson after the last two Navy losses, the fullback could make things ugly. USC is even worse, a lot of 2nd stringers filling in on offense will have a hard time against even an average USC defense.

You may have something there, but Pitt lost in OT at Utah in early Sept.

The ND crowd was larger than any 2 previous road games combined. Their away games and attendance numbers:

at New Mexico (Albuquerque): 23,940
at Iowa State (Ames): 43,195
at Wyoming (Laramie): 20,014
at Air Force (Colo Sprgs): 37,211
at ND (South Bend): 80,795

Wow, didn't realize how small some of their opponent's stadiums were. The QB looked rattled most of the game, missed a lot of receivers in an offense thats usually passes well. It rained pretty much through the 3rd quarter too, so that didn't help. Could very well have been a combination of the weather and the sustained noise from the fans (Loudest they've been for any game this year) all 4 quarters that may have hurt their execution.
