USC Football Team

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>LOS ANGELES — At least one member of USC's football team is being investigated in connection with an alleged sexual assault, Los Angeles police revealed Tuesday. <!-- This is for the middle ad ---><!-- Middle Content --><SCRIPT type=text/javascript>CM8ShowAd("CONTENT_MIDDLE")</SCRIPT><!-- END Middle Content -->

Neither police nor school officials would say which player or players might have been involved.

"We are aware of the investigation," said Tim Tessalone, USC's sports information director. "We are fully cooperating, and right now all further information will come from the LAPD."

The case has been assigned to detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department's Rape Special Section of the Robbery-Homicide Division, said Officer Adriana Sanchez with the Media Relations Section.

Sanchez read a terse department-issued statement, and declined to elaborate further.

According to the statement, the investigation began today "into an allegation of sexual assault that may involve a member or members of the University of Southern California's football team."

"The alleged allegation occurred in the early morning hours of Aug. 16, 2004, in the city of Los Angeles," the statement says. "Detectives are conducting an investigation, and there is no additional information at this time."

Asked when further information might be available, Sanchez replied, "When we have it."

A detective in the Rape Special Section referred all calls on the matter back to Media Relations.

The Trojans are ranked first in The Associated Press preseason poll and won its version of the national championship last season.

USC is scheduled to open the season Aug. 28 against Virginia Tech in the Black Football Coaches Association Football Classic in Landover, Md.

I wouldn't wish that type of trouble on any human and certainly not on any program. These types of problems are occurring too frequently in college sports these days.

Thomps and other USC faithful, the proper judgement should not be placed on your program but on society itself. I would hope tOSU fans understand the difference

Please consider: What you say about (and any satisfaction you get from) this ugly situation reflects more on you than on USC
unlike bucknuts or any rivals board....i think he was just reporting a story....nothing more nothing less.

hope everything works out ok. i wish these kids would get their heads on straight and realize what they are throwing away because of their attitudes (irizarry, guillaford, clarret, willie williams, channing crowder, marcus vick......................)

I gotta agree with Nation here. I saw no gloating or satisfaction with the first post. Just a statement and an inquiry for more information.

The news is troubling indeed. Hopefully things are resolved one way or the other quickly.

Edit: Well, since Methomps has edited his post, my (and Nation's) comment don't make much sense ... I like it better that way. Thanks for the change Methomps.

My post wasn't in reference to the initial post at all. News like this will always appear on message boards. I just hope fans realize this is not a reflection of a program. Even BN posters are handling it well so far....

I apologize for overreacting. I was just coming from another board where they were enjoying the news. I didnt expect anything like that on this board, so I dont know why I said that.

Methomps,

thanks for the edit..i didn't even realise that u were referencing to me coz i wasn't gloating over it..i just heard it on radio and posted it..
I was thinking that 'note' was for other posters who might go to USC board and start flaming or others on this board who might get some kick out of the news..

it befuddles me how these players(moc, irizzary, guilford, this usc player, willie williams etc...) can waste their talent like this..get free education..work hard and go for NFL...

read the post in the wearesc board where usc fans were making fun of Miami..and now I am hearing in a LA radio station..this question..'is USC miami West?' i guess..'what goes around comes around'...

While we are on USC

" The Trojans are college football's defending national champions, but their fate this season has been left up in the air by the uncertain status of All-American wide receiver Mike Williams and the loss of several other top players.

School officials are still awaiting word on whether the NCAA will reinstate Williams for his junior season after his failed attempt to join the National Football League.

The Trojans lost senior All-American defensive end Kenechi Udeze to the NFL and wide receiver Whitney Lewis and tailback Chauncey Washington to academic ineligibility. Winston Justice, a two-year starter at offensive tackle, was suspended from school for allegedly pulling a pellet gun on a fellow student last February."

mike williams

apparently...PC didn't sound very optimistic about Mike williams return..

my prediction for USC season..will lose two games and they will win the Rose Bowl!

Latest news is that..as many as four players might be involved..including an All-american running back..
