USC, a winning tradition?

MililaniBuckeye said:
Bullshit. USC barely played .500 ball for the entire decade of the 90s.
And they're still in the top 10 (#9 to be precise) in all time winning-percentage.

Hell, The Buckeyes only passed them on the all time list because of the 90's. Buckeyes.

USC sucked for most of the last 15 years, but to say that don't have a great winning tradition is a crock.

Does Oklahoma have a great winning tradition? They were worse during the 90's than the Trojans.

In the 90's:

USC 68-49-4 57.851%
Okla 61-51-3 54.348%
tOSU 91-29-3 75.203%

(Okla would be 62-50-3, and 55.217% counting 1996 TxTech forfeit as a win)

We've been ahead of USC in all-time winning percentage since 1993, Einstein. In fact, since our first year of football in 1890, we're #4 in winning percentage all-time (behind Michigan, Notre Dame, and Nebraska).

Hey! look, you're right.. Of course, the game was vastly different way back in the aughts and such (which is why I posted the 1930 cutoff - game hasn't changed a whole lot since then..)

None of which addresses the point that USC historically does have a winning tradition.

Nor does it answer the question as to whether or not you consider Oklahoma to have a winning tradition.

It's a shame that you still haven't figured out that being an ass doesn't lend credence to your arguments.

Since when does pointing out facts constitute being as ass? To be blunt, no I don't consider USC to have a winning tradition, regardless of how they played up until the early '90s, since they essentially sleepwalked through the '90s and up through 2001...it was a mediocre program at best. Ohio State hasn't had such a period...ever. You had you glory years under John McKay (and without those, USC wouldn't be near it's position in all-time winnin percentage), but other than that USC really hasn't been all that impressive (aside from 2002 and 2003). Now if USC continues for years the way it is playing now (or close to it), then you brag about tradition, but when you go 12-13 years with an overall record barely over .500, that doesn't constitute a winning tradition. If anyone is being an ass about the argument, it's you. Keep in mind you're a guest here as an outsider fan.

These posts were split out from the Justin King recruiting thread.

what was OSU's winning percentage during the 1980s?
USC being #10 in all time winning percentage means they have a winning tradition. Even ignorant OSU fans can figure that out.

And yes, Milly is an ass. So, continue to call him out as one. Even an outsider can figure that out.

USC has a better "winning tradition" than Florida, Florida State and Miami... but that's not saying much...

Since 1888 USC has had:
85 winning seasons out of 115 years of football - 73.9% of the time
Of note:
In 1888 and 1889 USC went 2 - 0 each year. In 1894 USC was 1 - 0 and in 1895 0-1
Not counting these "seasons" USC has 82 winning seasons in 111 years - 73.8% of the time

OSU, by contrast, has played ball since 1890
94 winning seasons in 113 years. - 83.2% of the time
OSU had 1 winning season in it's first 9 years (5-3 in 1892. It's 10th season, OSU went 9-0)
Removing this slow start OSU has 93 winning seasons in 104 years. 89.4%
USC has had winning season 9 less times than OSU. Removing the first 9 years for each school shows OSU's dominance over USC in terms of winning seasons - OSU has 93 winning season and USC only 79 (That is, USC had winning seasons 6 of 9 years - again, one of those years was 1-0 and two others 2- 0)

I know this thread isn't to compare OSU v. USC. Just thought I would anyway.

I don't want to offend anyone, but from my personal perspective, I get really p'd off when Cryami fans think football started in 1984 and ignore the rest of the history of football and their probation years as not counting, so I can't see myself judging a program based on one single decade either. USC was worse than mediocre for about 12 years or so, and it's true that they and Oklahoma sucked for a rather extensive period. Still, USC has a proud tradition that I think they've earned more than some of the so-called traditional powers (like most of the Florida schools), who have only been good for about 20 years in their entire history.

Very true, wstripes. Anyone that doesn't recognize that both programs are in the top 6 or 7 programs of all time is kidding themselves.

I'm pretty sure SC has more rose bowl wins and National Championships than OSU...It's absurd to say either SC or OSU doesn't have a proud tradition

tOSU and SC have a history of great football. I remember the bowl games in the 60s, 70s and 80s. SC and UCLA played some great football. It was tough for Big 10 teams to win the Rose Bowl. It was a home game for SC and UCLA.
