I would guess that is exactly what happened. Why anyone would openly eliminate the absolute best candidate (and be somewhat dismissive in the process)? Because you offered them a position already and they said no chance...or you never asked because you KNOW there’s no shot of them accepting your offer.

That is very true. Never really thought about it but he presided over two of the worst defenses I have ever seen fielded by an OSU team in '13 and '18 ...but still won 90% of his games
