Upcoming vacations? Fave destinations?

let's see here...

I haven't taken a vacation in ages, but the wifey and I will probably be going either to Europe or Vegas for our 10th anniversary next year (2012).

allegedly I'll be going to Hawaii for work in September, but I'll believe it when I see it.
that's quite a stark contrast

ugh, I was bored out of my mind in OBX. Of course I was stuck with the entire family AND mom and dad AND brother and his family. All in one beach house. Won't do that again...

Yeah, it really depends who you're with and what part you stay in. Some are close to a lot of nice restaurants and things to do, other areas are desolate with nothing but you, your house, and the beach.

Kauai is a very cool Hawaiian destination if you want to get off the beaten path. Doesn't have the beaches of Oahu or Maui, but excellent scenery, beautiful landscapes and not as crowded as the bigger, more popular destinations. The interior of the island is lush and completely unspoiled. A rental car, a catamaran trip around the Na Pali Coast and a good camera are a must.

Curacao is a good, reasonably priced Caribbean vacation spot. Great place to visit if you just want to bum around on the beach.

For non-US destinations, I absolutely love Edinburgh. Not as touristy as the bigger European destinations, but just as much to do/see. I love Scotland/Ireland and if I ever won the lottery, there's a decent chance I'd become an American ex-pat in Edinburg. Love that city.

we took a day trip to Edinburgh when we were living in England. We lived way up North, so it only took us about 3 hours to get there. Beautiful city. Had a great day.
Yeah, I lived near Cambridge for three years about 10 years ago and must have visited Edinburgh 6-8 times. I adore that city. Glasgow and Dublin are really cool too, just not as charming as Edinburgh IMO.

cool. We were up North near Middlesbrough in a little town called Yarm. We were there for almost two years, yet never made it to Ireland..... Went just about everywhere else though.

My wife and I are going to Hilton Head in a few weeks. We're driving from Columbus, and my question is; How bad is US 33 south of Columbus and into West Virginia? Google maps has that as the fastest and shortest (mileage) route, but my wife and I both have an unreasonable hatred of stop lights. Does US 33 go through a lot of towns, or is it pretty much 4+ lane highway all the way through? If it's 2 lanes for any significant distance, or goes through a half dozen towns, I'll probably just take I-70 all the way to I-77. That way over 700 of the 726 miles will be interstate. The I-70 to I-77 route adds ~30 minutes to the trip, but what's 30 minutes when you're already driving 12+ hours?

Used to drive to HH once a year from Columbus. I always took RT 23 to Chilicothe, where I picked up 35 into WVA and I-64 over to I-77.

This was 8-10+ years ago and it was faster by about 20mins than 33 at that time.

Where are you staying in HH? First time there? Was just there a couple of weeks ago. I can give you suggestions on places to eat, golf, etc. if you want.
