University of Florida Recruiting

Canes are down.

FSU is down.

Gators are iffy.

Do we get more than 2 from Florida this year?

You would think we capitalize on things this year? #1 ranking. National exposure. etc.

Combine a typically relatively small Buckeye class with being in good position with big name kids from other parts of the country and I just don't see a large number being pulled from Florida this year....unless some of those aforementioned big name kids matriculate elsewhere.

The three Florida recruits with the most interest in Ohio State are DB James Scott (Daytona Seabreeze, visiting this weekend); Leonard Hankerson (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, visiting for the Michigan game); and DB Major Wright (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, will schedule a visit).

Of the remaining Florida prospects, WR Deonte Thompson and OL James Wilson have offers, but Wilson is a soft verbal to USC and Thompson probably stays down south.

Some others claim Ohio State offers, but I wonder if the Bucks are still interested: QB LaTravis Washington (Nebraska lean); DB DeMarcus Van Dyke (Miami soft verbal); Jamire Williams (OSU in top 5); WR Matt Clements (OSU in top 3); and LB Brian Rolle (OSU leads).

I'd say that the Bucks have a good chance to land Scott, and have a fair chance to sign either Hankerson or Wright; the others are long shots until they schedule official visits to Columbus.

Just poking around and noticed that Florida has only 2 commits at this point. So, I thought maybe they are being very selective with their offers.

If Scout is correct (and some offers are clearly spurious) OSU has extended 41 offers to date and garnered 9 commits.

ND has 17 on 41 offers. Texas an incredible 20 of 26.

Florida has offered 103!

Daryl Stonum picks us or TSUN or USC (West) on Sunday. We are starting slow. But nobody is panicked. Waaaaaaaaay early. Meyer has proven recruiting chops. Texas, now, they are a mutant recruiting beast. Anyone else but Mack would have 5 MNCs in a row with that talent.

FSU and Miami are kicking butts and taking names on the recruiting trail this year, locking down a good chunk of Florida's top talent both in the north and in Broward/Dade. I think Mr. Brewster is the only Sunshine Stater in this class.

140!!!

Now that is the DEFINITION of the "shotgun" approach.

It's cool, though. I like the "sniper rifle" approach. It feels like I already know a committment when he joins the Buckeye family. As opposed to another name on the list, another soldier in the army.

Getting a florida offer in the mail is a lot like the sweepstakes contest. It's exciting when you're young and naive, but then you realize that so many others got the same pitch. How good of a shot do you have after all? Having seen a number of questionable offers extended to the midwest, I imagine the answer is 'quite slim' for many of those.

Florida's Steve Addazio is named national recruiter of the year - ESPN

By JC Shurburtt
ESPN Recruiting

Florida assistant Steve Addazio helped the Gators weather the greatest of storms and landed several of the top prospects in what is the best recruiting class on paper over the past five recruiting cycles. For this, he is the 2010 national recruiter of the year.

Addazio was Florida's coach-to-be after head coach Urban Meyer announced his resignation and then ultimately took a leave of absence from the Gators' football program because of health issues just following the SEC championship game in early December. On top of that, former defensive coordinator Charlie Strong took the head-coaching job at Louisville, bringing assistants Vance Bedford and Kenny Carter with him. Recruiting coordinator/receivers coach Billy Gonzales, who has a national reputation as a recruiter, also left the program for a position at LSU.

Despite the turmoil and picture of instability -- something that can kill a recruiting effort faster than anything -- the Gators landed the nation's top class and one of the best classes during Meyer's era.

"Steve Addazio is certainly one of the very best recruiters I've ever been around," Meyer said. "He brings the same passion and excellence to the recruiting trail that he does to coaching on the field. Our guys love him because he connects with them and cares about them, and that's very evident to anyone who spends time around our program."
