  • Changing the University’s retire/rehire policy.

@ORD_Buckeye: Any comments?

Just that Proenza was the fraud that I always contended he was. He left a ticking financial time bomb behind that the new admin and Regents are trying to deal with. The idiot built a 30K football stadium that attracts crowds of 8K. There are new dorms sitting unused because their enrollment is declining. Their athletic subsidy is twice what their entire endowment disburses. It's 5% of their entire budget. UA is a poster child that "build it and they will come" is nothing but a line from a movie. UA's debt load ($487M) is larger than their entire fiscal year budget ($484M). By comparison, Ohio State budget is twice outstanding debt. They really need to find some way to merge KSU and UA. It's always been an unsustainable situation that seems to be hitting a wall.

Let's break this down and Sesame Street the shit. One of these schools is not like the others; one of these schools is different from the rest.

Only one does it right. Appalling to see 10% of tuition go to subsidize sports. Akron May now be the 2nd best of the bunch deciding to eliminate reckless spending. Mid-major Sports has minimal societal benefit.

Yep. They really seem to be doing it (granted out of emergency necessity) to permanently reduce the budget and subsidy. That's a stark contrast to Beavis who cut a bunch of sports a few years ago and just plowed all the saving into the foosball.

Living in Akron I am surprised how there has been no comment of the responsibility the Board of Trustees holds with this situation. The current and past presidents of the university have not been completely alone in their actions.
