Tough crowd. I think ND's new Under Armor threads look good (yes, even the Shamrock Series alternate).
Northwestern going Goth for Homecoming.
With respect, the uniform worn by the football team is not the "brand of the university."When I flipped on the ND - Purdue game I had no idea who was playing. At first I thought it was a Sun Belt match up.
That's the real reason why most 'alternate' uniforms suck & what is so insidious about the sports clothing manufacturers plan....it destroys the brand recognition of Universities.
No, but it should reflect the brand of the university, and not denigrate it.With respect, the uniform worn by the football team is not the "brand of the university."

I didn't say they cannot be iconic, but if the way your school is viewed is as a sports uniform, then your school needs to be rebranded. My own view of tOSU looks more like this:Take images of Ohio State, TSUN, PSU, USC, Texas, Alabama, FSU & Notre Dame football uniforms. Then take images of anything else that you believe represents each school and show them to a random sample of people not only in the US but around the world.
Care to wager a bet on which set of images is more often correctly identified with the school they are associated with?
College football uniforms are every bit as iconic as the Nike Swoosh, script Coca-Cola & Google.
That's not what he meant. A school can recognized by a sports uniform, but that doesn't mean the school itself is viewed as that uniform.I didn't say they cannot be iconic, but if the way your school is viewed is as a sports uniform, then your school needs to be rebranded.
I'd think he (Muck) could speak for himself. Nonetheless, I think a school that chooses to characterize itself based on its athletic laundry is making a huge mistake. And the notion that such laundry could "denigrate" the university strikes me as a hysterical concept. I understand others don't agree with this point of view, and that's fine. That's not what he meant. Well, I'm speaking for me, in regards to your typical contrarian position. The schools Muck specifically noted--Ohio State, TSUN, PSU, USC, Texas, Alabama, FSU & Notre Dame--don't characterize themselves based on their "athletic laundry". They're simply recognizable due to their on-field success while at the same time maintaining a long-standing uniform.I'd think he (Muck) could speak for himself. We've had two slightly different versions of our jersey over the past 46 years, and Michigan's jersey has also had minor tweaks over the same timeframe (this doesn't include the recent "throwback" or "alternate" uniforms worn once or twice a season). What's more, PSU, Texas, USC, Alabama, and Notre Dame are virtually unchanged over the same timeframe...look at film of any of their games of any of those teams from 1968 or so onward and you'll instantly know what team they are (not sure when FSU went to their current uniform design, but it's at least since the 1980s). Nebraska would be in that same category aside from the horrid [Mark May] they've worn lately.
Now, if you're talking about schools like Oregon, then you have a point.
