Uniforms (Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, etc....)

* Southern California: The "Spirit of Troy" logo has withstood the test of time because it still looks cool and is associated with success. The yellow of USC is striking, especially the stripes on the arms, and the maroon is the staple color that's been associated with so many great football players.

[methomps] Those colors are gold and cardinal, you yellow-bellied maroon! [/methomps]

Eric Lacy's Top 5
Top football uniforms stand the test of time
Eric Lacy / The Detroit News

The top five most identifiable uniforms in college football:
* Alabama: Numbers on the helmets say it all. Sure does make it easy for fans to find their favorite player on the field. This school exudes tradition, just like every other one on this list. These uniforms haven't been changed much since the days of Paul "Bear" Bryant. There's something to be said about honoring history and those that came before you, concepts that folks at this university embrace.
* Notre Dame: The "golden domers" also love to embrace their past, and it's a tradition on campus that the helmets are painted on Monday evening following every game. Notre Dame wears navy jerseys at home and white on the road. But every now and then, for a little luck of the Irish, they'll break out the green jerseys for special occasions at Notre Dame Stadium.
* Southern California: The "Spirit of Troy" logo has withstood the test of time because it still looks cool and is associated with success. The yellow of USC is striking, especially the stripes on the arms, and the maroon is the staple color that's been associated with so many great football players.
* Michigan: In some ways, the Wolverines' look is pretty basic -- blue jerseys at home and stripeless pants. But the helmet truly adds to the ensemble with the wings and three stripes. Too many recruits to count have said they picked Michigan because of the helmets.
* Ohio State: Another signature helmet that's simple, yet very sophisticated -- silver with the scarlet-white-black striping down the middle. But what makes this helmet truly distinctive are the buckeye stickers for team and individual accomplishments.

I agree w/ that top 5...I must say I like the Oregon unis...a mark of consistency which never changes.

I also dig the Oklahoma and Nebraska unis - i love the 70s/80s highlights of the annual clashes of crimson sooners and red huskers...

I am also surprised the burnt orange didn't make this list.

Surprised nobody has pitched a fit about the uniform changes this year.

All I needed was an invitation. Bitch, bitch, bitch, whine, whine, whine. The 06 - 07 Jerseys SUCK big time. Get the gray back where it belongs and while you're at loose the pink pinted pants. Is that too damn much to ask?

Did you mean "loose" or "lose". With respect to pants, both words fit but have very different meanings.

I dig the uni's.. would prefer the pants with the silver gleam to them, but as far as the tops go.. the white & red tops are awesome, IMO.

a "gotcha" for sure. I got carried away on the "O" the uni's still suck in comparison to ones not so very far back when the pants were gray and so were the stripes on the sleeve. We look like Rutgers on a bad day.

The numbers are further up on the shoulders, instead of on the corners of the sleeves.

Also, I was looking through Davidson's gallery and noticed that it looks like the team standardized black socks with the scarlet home jerseys, and white socks with the away jersey beginning last season. If this minor detail was actually reported, I don't remember reading it in all the hoopla over the jersey design change. If you go back to older photos from 2005 and before, though, everybody basically wore whatever color socks/belts/etc they wanted.

And they're smaller than when they were up on the shoulders before...

Socks should be gray... :nerd:

After 10 or 12 of these... I've come to the conclusion that its impossible to have these uniform discussions without the thing turning totally metrosexual.

How is Penn State not on this list?

With some of the comments I've seen on ugly uniforms, I want to know which craptacular jersey is the worst of the worst:

Notre Dame- against USC today

Minnesota- against tOSU earlier this year

Syracuse- against Washington at the beginning of this year
