Underclassmen Declare For 2008 NBA Draft

Derrick Rose is lightning fast and will be special in the NBA. Gordon is a step slower, and that's really all it takes to be ordinary in the league.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how an inconsistent 6'2" shooting guard will be a star in the league. It's not like we're talking about Allen Iverson here. And there is one common theme when it comes to college stars that are not NBA superstars: You have to accept being a role player averaging less than 15 ppg if you want to play on a team that's not drafting in the lottery. Can Eric Gordon?

Eric Gordon is taller than 6'2'' and Ben Gordon and Boobie Gibson are two SG's doing well, and Gordon is better than them two size wise, and ability to score in the lane...

Nobody, that's the point. You were implying we'd think he was going to be a lot better in the NBA had he been a Buckeye which isn't the case. I'd be skeptical of a 6'7-6'8 power forward either way. He's got a chance to be a solid NBA player, a Joe Smith type, but he won't ever be the focal point of the NBA team he's on.

Except he is a legit 6'10 but whatever. People make too big a deal out of height. If you can play, you will do fine in the league. He showed he can play this year, seeing his armloads of accolades. We'll just see what happens if he stays in the draft or goes back to school.

Love is no where near 6'10'' that is what all the scout are even saying...Height is a major factor...Look at Memphis vs. Texas...Augustine and Abrahms couldn't get their shots off...

And watching Love you see that he had trouble getting shots off against Lopez twins, and Devin Harden from Cal who are both guys that will be in the league...

No real surprise here - Beasley is gone:

Kansas State's Beasley declares for NBA draft - NCAA Basketball - SI.com

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -- Michael Beasley is headed to the NBA.
Kansas State's All-American freshman announced Monday that he will skip his final three seasons to enter the June 26 NBA draft, where he could be the No. 1 overall pick.

Beasley, the Big 12 player of the year, had the second-most rebounds and third-most points of any freshman in NCAA history, leading Kansas State to its first NCAA tournament victory in 20 years.

The agile 6-foot-10 power forward averaged 26.2 points per game and a nation-leading 12.4 rebounds, finishing second to North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough for numerous player of the year awards.

Indiana has him listed at 6'4", which would make him likely 1 or 2 inches shorter... say, around 6'2".

Gibson has thrived as a role player and will be nothing more in the league. If he had come into the league expecting to be a star and the cornerstone of a franchise, he would have been a sore disappointment.

Ben Gordon is your best comparison... except that he was at least consistent in his years at UConn. If EG were to stick around 1 or 2 more years of college, I'd have more confidence that he could have a similar career. Instead, he'll have a fork in the road after a disappointing rookie season... will he accept mediocrity and work to improve or will he fade knowing that he'll never be an All Star in the league?

that's pretty fair to me...I like the Gordon comparison way more than the Boobie comparison. Gordon will have a much easier time getting into the paint than Boobie has had. Gibson is absolutely a role player in Clevelands offense. The upside on Gordon is clearly higher than it was for Gordon though. Ben is considerably smaller, and completely relied on his quickness at the college level and now at the NBA. Although Gordon is short for a 2 guard, he has the size to get where he wants.

But how far can a team go with a Ben Gordon-type player as the cornerstone of the franchise?

Gordon ceratinly isn't a player to build your franchise on. He's worthy of a top 10 pick though.

I missed earlier discussion, but I don't feel like he's the cornerstone to any franchise. But I think he can be successful at the next level. He has the ability to be better than Ben Gordon who has had a decent NBA career thus far and was a first rounder.

You don't get franchise changing players in every draft. The media(ESPN) just hypes the best available player or two as such.

Beasley might be that but I don't think Derrick Rose fits the bill.

We are going to agree to disagree on this one, but I think that Gordon has a higher ceiling than Ben Gordon...And teams would kill for a player like Ben Gordon who could give them 18 points off the bench...I just don't think that Gordon will be a guy that will be a 6th man type...Not a franchise player, but I think he can be a starter for a long time in this league...

He may be undersized at 6'3'' 6'4'' but he is a bigger guard in terms of stregth...

I think that DWade is a solid comparison in terms of size and stregth, and he has a better jumper than DWade...

I understand I am throwing out some all-star type guys, and I am not saying that he is going to reach their game but just giving some guys that his game compares to and why I think that he will succeed...
