UF OL Ronnie "Taz" Wilson (official thread)

Besides Mich. what is the next biggest rival?

Taz- I would probably say it is Penn State. They are in the neighboring state and we are guaranteed to play them every year. While this game is exciting it is still nothing like the game against scUM. :scum4:

Mr. Wilson

Michigan is the biggest rivalry in all of CFB.

Our next biggest would be Penn State followed by Michigan State, Iowa, Purdue, IL, and we always have some great early games. Next year we start a home and home with Texas.

Taz, what are your thoughts on OSU right now?

Well after being there for the camp the weather was great and everyone one I met or talk to was so cool. Then the facilities were awsome so i'm very excited about my next visit. Then I'll be able to get around and see the entire city.

Taz OSU-Mich. was voted the #1 rivalry in all of sports by ESPN back in 2000 when they ranked all the rivalries. Its really something you have to experience, so hopefully you have the chance to come up here if your playoff schedule doesn't interfere. The gameday atmosphere at the Shoe is awesome.

Upcoming Schedules

Besides our annuals with Michigan and Penn State, OSU will have a Home/Home with Texas, then a Home/Home with USC.

When we had the Home/Home with Notre Dame some years back, it had a lot of people talking, but for OSU, no one other team will ever compare with Michigan.

Another thing that makes OSU so special is the year-end rivalry game with Michigan. A number of other schools enjoy this, too.

Army-Navy
Oklahoma-Texas
Havard-Yale
USC-UCLA
UF-FSU

I guess there are three prerequisites for a "rivalry." First - some history between the schools - they have had to play each other for some time. Second - they need to play on a regular basis (i.e., each year.) Third - The match-up has to be balanced.

While OSU/Texas will surely be a great Home/Home, it won't have the rivalry implications as OSU/Michigan. If you could poll 100 OSU fans if they had to choose a win over Texas or a win over UM, I'd bet 99 of them would take a win over UM over a win over Texas. The 100th would have erroniously voted for Buchanan.

Ronnie,

Maybe you could give us all weekly updates as you get ready for the season. Maybe something like a Journal, where you talk about practice, your up coming opponets, etc.

Maybe you could also share a little bit about the recruiting process. Most people here have not gone through it, they might enjoy your insight into the whole process as it unfolds. Especially how the other schools treat you!

Admins - Can you set someting like this up?

I don't think anyone has mentioned our rival with the University of Maimi (Cryami after the National Championship Game) and that we will be playing them for a few years while you would be here!

The game that gets me the most worried/excited for besides the Michigan game is the Wisconsin game. Especially in recent years we seem to go back and forth every year on who is going to win the game. Plus like 4 years in a row the road team walked away with the victory so the game is always close and up in the air. Also, in 2000 and in 2001 the games were followed by the winning team stomping on the other teams midfield. So there is some definite hate in the games. I think all these things make for our biggest rivalry behind Michigan.

  • Recently a Gator fan posted on Bucknuts that Taz would find the level of fan support at UF, comparable to OSU. I recall several years ago, driving north on I-75 from Tampa towards Gainesville. I kept seeing billboards, and hearing radio commericals for UF football season tickets.
Bare in mind this was during the Steve Spurrier era, not the fire Ron Zook.com era. Over an over, I kept saying to myself; you would nerver see that in Ohio. OSU averages 105,000+ per game. The common man can't get a ticket

Now that ND is in the dumper, no team gets more national tv coverage than OSU. Two the 14 guys drafted from last years team weren't even starters. Drew Carter only started maybe 7 games total for a career, tore an ACL, and got drated in like the 5th round..

HH, we can most certainly make that happen. I'll PM Taz about it.
