UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

You'd have to think Man U have a tad bit of momentum after winning the Premiership and it will be tough for Chelsea considering John Terry and Drogba are a little bit dinged up for the final. Despite this nobody knows what to expect of Chelsea because they've never made it this far in European competition so they are difficult to get a feel for going into this game IMO. All in all though i expect a Manchester United victory 2-1 and Sir Alex is going to win his 2nd UEFA Champions League trophy.

I am going to change my prediction, just slightly. United will score early and Chelsea will push for the equalizer and in doing so get caught on the counter. United over Chelsea 2-1 no extra time. This referee hasn't been kind to Chelsea in the past. Don't know if that will have any bearing but it's just one more thing for me hope helps United to a double. And congrats to Pompey for winning the FA cup, That should be an interesting Community shield in August. United and Pompey at Wembley. More silverware for Fergie.

Yeah, congrats to Pompey....but I really do feel for Cardiff City....they had a dream run in the tournament, played their hearts out and lost by a solitary goal. They were playing in their first final since 1927!!! I really did want the underdog to win.

But, congrats to Harry Redknapp.....the guy has toiled away for several years as player and manager with not much reward. Finally, he's got something to be proud of.

As for the Community shield, a worthless piece of silverware IMO ..... Man U should win it fielding a second string squad!

Yes it is a complete afterthought. And United should win with the reserves.

And today is the day. I am leaving work early so I can watch the match live. I have such high hopes for United. This could be a epic day and month. To watch United win the league and then the CL would be a great month. It makes up for the lack of Ohio State football.

Yeah man....I am gonna do the same....this is gonna be a final for the ages! I really do like both teams, and being a neutral I would really like to see an open and clean game. I hope the game doesn't go into PKs.....it's no way for a championship to be won.

Good luck to all you Man U & Chelsea supporters! It doesn't get much bigger than this in European club competitions. Today's a day when legends can be born.

Oh waht a day for me. That game should have been over in the first half. United had 3 just outstanding chances after Ronaldo's goal and didn't take any of them. The Chelsea goal was from just a series of blunders. The second half was what i thought the whole game would be and how thankful am I that Drogba can't control himself. PK's are just gut-wrenching. But in the end the spoils of war go to the victor and today that went the way I wanted it to go.

Chelsea were very fortunate to keep the game at 1-0 before they got a lucky equalizer on a deflection off of two Manchester United defenders. However a Drogba shot off the post and a Lampard shot off the crossbar very nearly ended Manchester's day. You have to feel for John Terry because he's such a tremendous defender and headed an almost certain Ryan Giggs goal away from an empty net on a beautiful play from Patrice Evra.

Meh. It's probably going to go down as an epic final, neither team was that impressive though. Too much trying to wind each other up and bitching to the referee and not enough trying to put the game away. Way better than their league games at least.

I probably should feel sorry for Terry, but I just can't. Watching him fail after all the shit he's talked about Arsenal not having "English grit" and whatnot was just too good for me. At least he had the balls to step up take the penalty though. The only Chelsea player I really feel bad for is Cech. Great player and person. Was only a few inches away from saving one or two more penalties, too.

Ronaldo again showed the difference between him and the truly great players. Got the goal and put in that cross to Tevez, then disappeared, just like he does in pretty much every other big game. And on top of that he bottled it during the PK shootout. Doesn't matter if he scores 60 every season until he retires, he won't get to 'legend' status until he actually takes over a big game or has a massive Maradona moment.
I'm hoping the British press give Rooney some stick, as he was irrelevent for practically the entire match, but it probably won't happen. Scholes was a big liability for United as well, and probably should've taken off for Anderson around the hour mark. On the other end, I thought Vidic was the best player on the pitch. Kept Drogba from really doing anything was all over place, particularly in the 1st half. Fantastic player he's turned into.

Other than that, can't really complain about the winner. At least United are a proper (and non-London) club, and, even though they've been terrible througout the knockout rounds this year, generally play good soccer. It's also kind of fitting that they win it after the Munich anniversary. Congrats to them and their fans.
