UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

Chelsea were taken to the shed, losing 3-1 at home to Atletico Madrid. Madrid Derby in Lisbon. Who would've thought that at the beginning of the season ?

I wonder if the sun will black out when Philosopher King Jose Mourinho goes trophyless.

@TooTallMenardo Just Cech. Ramires played as did all of the usual defense. You're probably just thinking that because of the ban Ramires got in England & the fact Terry got hurt in the first leg. Terry, Cahill & Ivanovic all played. They just got beaten, flat out.

Yep, Ramos in the clutch again. Who would've thought his set-piece heroics would've been Madrid's best weapon.

I was torn on this one. Part of me was pulling for Atleti. What they have accomplished on such a low budget is astounding. The fact that they are able to do what they have done is good for the game. On the other hand, I still really like Bale and Modric. The rest of the twats at Real can DIAF, but I still really appreciate those two as footballers, even though they no longer wear my club's shirt. After forcing their way out of Tottenham in search of trophies and astronomical wages, I'm glad for them they they at least achieved what they were looking for.

1st Leg results from the Knockout Round (Home team listed first)

PSG 1-1 Chelsea: Rematch from last year. Chelsea are in good position heading back to Stamford Bridge on March 11th.

Shakhtar Donetsk 0-0 Bayern Munich: Nothing to see here, Bayern should comfortably handle them at the Allianz March 11th.

FC Basel 1-1 Porto: You never know with teams of this caliber, but Porto should get the result they need at home March 10th.

Schalke 0-2 Real Madrid: This was over before it even started.

Juventus 2-1 Borussia Dortmund: Juve are in uncharted waters out of the Group Stage (Of late), so its unknown what to expect from them in Germany, but BVB have proven they have the pedigree despite being a feeder club to Bayern Munich. It should be a really entertaining 2nd leg March 18th.

Man City 1-2 Barcelona: Another rematch from last year. City have proven ZERO pedigree in this competition & it would be difficult to expect them to get a result at the Camp Nou March 18th, although Barcelona are nowhere near as good as they once were. That being said, three matches between these two & three City players sent off. You do the math.

Arsenal 1-3 Monaco: This was a shocker, Monaco took it right to them. Three away goals isn't completely insurmountable, but damn near close to it. Monaco are an unproven team at this stage as well, but I can't imagine this wildly inconsistent Arsenal team will be able to topple the deficit at Monaco on March 17th, but they always make it close it the end.

Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 Atletico Madrid: Not the same Atletico team from last season by any means, but a 1-0 aggregate for Leverkusen probably isn't enough heading to the Calderon on March 17th.
