UCLA Bruins (official thread)

Rosen's absolutely right.
100% agreed. It's funny though that he's being killed for it, as he is also a talented QB that comes from wealth. Yet I haven't seen any wild partying antics or selfish acts from Rosen. He wore a hat explaining his political opinion and sent out a tweet that 99.999% of players agree with in CFB(and most logical fans do as well). Good for him for stating this, since the only forum kids have to speak is through social media. He's just saying what others already know

My guess is a coach wouldn't be calling out a player publicly as heading down the manziel path over 1 hat. My guess is there have been other actions, perhaps late to practice, perhaps not hitting the film room or weight room as much as expected, perhaps attitude, perhaps not being a leader. Not guessing that those are problems Rosen is having but I just have a hunch that the coach has had a few conversations privately before he publicly compares the leader of his team to manziel.

I'd agree, if we weren't talking about Jim Mora.

UCLA WR Cordell Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s son, ditching football again

In August of last year, it was reported that the son of Snoop Dogg, wide receiver Cordell Broadus, would be leaving the UCLA football program to “to break away from the football life and pursue his own goals.” Seven months later, it was reported that Broadus had returned to the Bruins and would play for the Pac-12 school this season.

Five months after that? Never mind.

Get a load of this fuckin' guy :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I'm sure Jedd Fisch is the answer at UCLA though.

Since 2005...

"Spread" teams:
Texas, Florida, Auburn, tOSU

"Non-Spread" teams:
LSU (though they incorporated spread-elements in 2007), Bammer, FSU

I think a guy might need to be a little more aware of his surroundings to actually challenge for, let alone win, a National Title.

Even Bama the last three years has been much more of a spread team than a pro style one (this year's iteration especially).

Interesting thoughts from Rosen on the sham of "student-athletes."

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...om&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial

Rosen: Don't get me started. I love school, but it's hard. It's cool because we're learning more applicable stuff in my major (Economics)—not just the prerequisite stuff that's designed to filter out people. But football really dents my ability to take some classes that I need. There are a bunch of classes that are only offered one time. There was a class this spring I had to take, but there was a conflict with spring football, so...

B/R: So football wins out?

Rosen: Well, you can say that.

B/R: So that's reality for student-athletes playing at a major university?

Rosen: I didn't say that, you did. (Laughs.) Look, football and school don't go together. They just don't. Trying to do both is like trying to do two full-time jobs. There are guys who have no business being in school, but they're here because this is the path to the NFL. There's no other way. Then there's the other side that says raise the SAT eligibility requirements. OK, raise the SAT requirement at Alabama and see what kind of team they have. You lose athletes and then the product on the field suffers.

Look, football and school don't go together. They just don't. Trying to do both is like trying to do two full-time jobs. — Josh Rosen

B/R: Wait, some players shouldn't be in school?

Rosen: It's not that they shouldn't be in school. Human beings don't belong in school with our schedules. No one in their right mind should have a football player's schedule, and go to school. It's not that some players shouldn't be in school; it's just that universities should help them more—instead of just finding ways to keep them eligible.

Any time any player puts into school will take away from the time they could put into football. They don't realize that they're getting screwed until it's too late. You have a bunch of people at the universities who are supposed to help you out, and they're more interested in helping you stay eligible. At some point, universities have to do more to prepare players for university life and help them succeed beyond football. There's so much money being made in this sport. It's a crime to not do everything you can to help the people who are making it for those who are spending it.

B/R: But those same players go make money in the NFL after being prepared by their college programs.

Rosen: Some do, absolutely. What about those who don't? What did they get for laying their body on the line play after play while universities make millions upon millions? People criticize when guys leave early for the NFL draft, and then rip them when some guys who leave early don't get drafted. [They say,] "Why did you leave school if you weren't going to get drafted?" I'll tell you why: Because for a lot of guys, there is no other option. They were either leaving early (for the NFL) or flunking out. To me, that's a problem within the system and the way we're preparing student-athletes for the future away from football. Everyone has to be part of the process.

B/R: How is it, then, that some guys graduate in three years? Deshaun Watson graduated in three years from Clemson. So did his roommate, Artavis Scott.

Rosen: I'm not knocking what those guys accomplished. They should be applauded for that. But certain schools are easier than others

Looks like the athlete SAT scores are from 2008.

Granted, not sure how much SAT scores overall improve over 8 years but I would assume some.

Probably. I still think the gaps wouldn't change dramatically. Assuming that a portion of the recruiting class is at or above the median, that also means you're going to be taking in a lot of kids with under 900 scores to drag the average down that far, which means that Stanford undoubtedly brings kids in with SAT scores below 1000. Keep that in mind the next time the announcers are circle jerking themselves as to how brilliant the Stanford student-athletes are. It also speaks to how full of shit and hypocritical Harbaugh was when he attacked Michigan for making academic compromises. If you're a highly selective school trying to run a competitive football program, you're going to be taking kids in that probably shouldn't be anywhere near your university and trying to find a way to keep them eligible. Rosen was right about that.

The other half where he whined and whimpered about how hard it is to play the foosball while going to school was entitled b.s. Tell that to someone who has to work 30 hours a week to get through school or has to spend five or six years in the Army to get some educational benefits.
