UCLA Basketball Scandal

Dohrmann accused Ben Howland of a recruiting violation in relation to the recruitment of current Oregon St. So. Roberto Nelson. At the time, the allegation was essentially dismissed due to the fact that the source had a serious credibility problem. The allegation was that Coach Howland called the recruit twice in a month which only one call was allowed, and it probably got more press than it deserved.

I don't even care if UCLA gets the death penalty now.

It wouldn't surprise me even a little bit if something was going on in recruiting... something just not right about the talent that has passed through Pauley with too little success for there not to be something... I dont know, just not right going on...

Dohrmann also accused Ohio State of an NCAA violation in that recruitment by alleging that Clark Kellog recruiting Nelson on behalf of OSU. The violation was refuted - for among other reasons that OSU never offered Nelson a scholarship.

First Jeremy Lin, now this. SI has become just as lousy as ESPN with the whole pick one (non-) story, flog it to death and proliferate it throughout your entire enterprise thing. A couple months ago I followed a lot of SI writers on twitter and outside of Dohrmann, I generally respected their work. Now I think they only two guys that are safe are Grant Wahl and Joe Posnanski.

If your story won't speak for itself, get all of your co-workers speak for it (incessantly) instead.
