UCF Golden Knights (2017 National Champs....sort of)

UCF: Scott Frost has a five-year deal with an option for a 2-year extension, worth $1.7 million in the first year. The salary pool for his assistants will be $2.3 million. Athletic director Danny White says that Frost was offered a higher annual salary, but wanted a higher pool for his assistant coaches. The buyout is $850,000 for the length of the contract.

And here in Oregon.

I tell you this - if he ever did, down the road, become the next head coach here.....people better treat him a damn shade better than they did when he left here to go to Stanford....

So the Nebraska native went home - and heard boos from fans in Lincoln when he didn't immediately live up to the expectations set by the previous quarterback, Tommie Frazier, who had led the Cornhuskers to back-to-back national championships.

The boos seemed a little harsh to objective observers as the Huskers lost just two games with Frost at quarterback during his first year. He turned the critics completely around a year later by rushing for 19 touchdowns in the 1997 season, a school record at the time, and helping coach Tom Osborne to his third national title.

Also, just a bit of trivia thrown in there....

In November 1994, freshman Scott Frost played mostly at safety. But in a game against Oregon, coach Bill Walsh gave him the shot he wanted at quarterback. He started in place of the injured Steve Stenstrom.

Frost threw the first touchdown pass of his college career. It was also the last touchdown catch in the college career of one David Shaw, now Stanford's head coach.

UCF is claiming a national title and paying coaches their bonuses

UCF polished off an undefeated season by topping Auburn in the Peach Bowl on January 1, and the Knights are not content with just saying they went undefeated. UCF made it clear today they are declaring themselves to be national champions, and they don’t care what you think about it.

Inspired by comments from UCF officials following UCF’s Peach Bowl victory, UCF rolled out a graphic claiming the 2017 season to be a national championship season as the only undefeated team in FBS college football this season, which is true. UCF also defeated the same Auburn team that handed both of Monday night’s national title game participants, Alabama and Georgia, their only losses of the 2017 season. Naturally, this has led to some suggesting UCF is worthy of at least a split national championship this season.

Gotta play someone with a heartbeat to make that claim. Computers put their schedule strength in the 55-75 region. Austin Peay. Cincinnatti? Auburn was their first top 25 game. Buckeyes would blow these guys out.

They beat Memphis twice when they were ranked and also beat USF when they were ranked as well. Yeah their schedule wasn't great but they did have 4 ranked wins this year and beat the team that beat both of this years Natty finalists.

This will be as close as they ever get so they absolutely should claim it.

Plus this is a huge middle finger to the committee which is well deserved on their part.
