Game Thread UAB Blazers at tOSU - Sep 22, Noon ET, BTN

During the Tressel years, I was always ok with the offense being lackluster, because the ST and D were always stellar. To see breakdowns all across the board, and especially the defense, makes me very concerned. Very.

The offense really needs to show up for longer than half a quarter if this team wants to get anywhere.

As far as the defense, well, I don't expect them to play lights out when they are on the field for so long. We already knew this defense is going through some rebuilding pains, although I must admit they seem to be worse than I thought.

It's time for Braxton to step up in the passing game.

We returned basically 9-11 starters from a year ago how is that rebuilding? The talent may not be quite there but it's not like we're strolling out green players, they should know what to do and how to do it by now.

Listening to Urban's presser:

We are passive; wants CBs to man up.
Isn't happy with the offense.
Basically stopped himself from saying we need to bring in some playmakers ASAP.

My thoughts.
I can accept bad play, what I dont like is the lack of improvement across the board through 4 games. I was expecting more flash and consistency from the offense.

And to Urban's credit he wouldn't have been out of line by saying we need playmakers. Because that certainly is the case. I like Jordan Hall I think he is effective when we put him in the right position to do so but a guy like Zeke/Marshall in the future are guys who can make something out of nothing, much like Braxton can do. Until we have that 2nd guy who strikes fear into a defense it'll be easier to slow down/stop this offense.

Urban Meyer said himself that there wasn't going to be much improvement on a week to week basis.

Because last year this team was 6-7 and has a brand new coaching staff this year. They are practicing against an entirely new offense. This is a rebuilding year.

Urban Meyer is a phenomenal coach and he clearly knows what he's doing. However, I wonder if he overestimated our team last year and figured they would have the core concepts already down.

Scrap the circle drill, 1 on 1s, etc. This is a nice way to build enthusiasm but its useless when we can't even tackle properly. Spend the limited time we have in the sheds and practicing tackling form. The flashy stuff should come later. Just my 2 cents. It also seems to me like those drills are responsible for a lot of the discipline issues/penalties we've been getting recently.
