Landon Donovan back with Galaxy, aims for U.S. roster - ESPNFC

"I realize that I have a long way to go, both on the field and off the field, to work back into the national team, and that's my goal," Donovan said after a training session with the Galaxy at Georgetown. "I miss being a part of that. I want to represent my country again."

"He certainly hasn't agreed with a lot of my choices and that's understandable," Donovan said of Klinsmann. But "he's always been very respectful, he's always been supportive, and now my task is to find my way back in. And there's certainly no obligation on anyone's part to let me back in. I've got to earn my way back."

You've heard it from the horses mouth, folks. Now I'm not saying he should automatically be on the team right away, but he should be welcomed back with open arms. Just hasn't been the same without him.

Absolutely. It's pretty clear that the team the team misses his creativity, speed, and quality on set pieces. The US team is just not the same without him. Even just having him on the field is an advantage, as other teams respect the player that he is and has been. Obviously it will take him some time to get back in shape, but there is no reason why he should not be on the 23 man roster come June.

Precisely. Couldn't have said it any better. Two months + change should be more than enough time for him to get back in shape & he should be rejuvenated given all of the time he's had off. Might be a blessing in disguise having all of this time to freshen up his mind & body and I don't believe there should be any ill feelings towards him from the coaches or players given what he's accomplished for us throughout his career. That being said, he also has to earn his spot back on the team too. He has to show he wants to be here and I don't think that will be a problem.

Pretty glaring omissions in LD, Bocanegra, and Cherundolo (although claiming Cherundolo's omission is injury driven). I know Landon has only played in 6 games this season, but IMO we desperately need him in the attack. Stuart Holden's return is encouraging.

Seems pretty clear to me that Klinsmann feels Donovan is out of form and that he just doesn't rate Bocanegra. I'd rather they feature Gonzalez and Cameron as the CB pairing for now.

I'd like to see John Anthony Brooks eventually on a camp roster, but you'd have to convince him to get cap tied to the U.S. (even though it's widely reported he's leaning U.S. over Germany).

But now isn't the time to screw around try to get Germans tied to the U.S.

Don't disagree with wanting that pairing to develop and start, I just personally don't love dropping the captain like we did.

With the five strikers, I don't think you could take one of the current ones out, but I'd like to see Jack McInerney get a shot in a friendly.

But the only one you could take out is probably Eddie Johnson (and that would be arguable). Jozy and Deuce are locked.
