U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

Game could've gone either way. Glad we got an early goal before the field really became unplayable. Not really anything you can take away from this game given the conditions, but got the much needed three points. Thankfully both the other two games ended in draws, so we're sitting in first currently, but an extremely difficult task lies ahead on Tuesday @ Azteca. I'm sure Mexico are going to be feeling some intense pressure from everyone given the two consecutive draws, but I'm just hoping for a point. A win is highly unlikely there even given there most recent results.
Can't imagine how the legs will be feeling tomorrow for those guys.

Tough performance. 3 points.

Beat Mexico!

I can see a 3-2 type war between those two next week.

I would be ecstatic if we could get two goals there. The last time we there in WC qualifying we got an early goal through Charlie Davies, but just completely ran out of gas at the end & ultimately gave up a clinching late goal. If only Davies hadn't completely ruined his career in that car accident. He was such a promising player for us back in '09.

One can only dream. The pressure is really on them, especially at home & we're extremely fortunate we got three tonight, otherwise we could've been in a dire situation three games in. I don't like all of this "rebellious" talk about players & Klinsmann though. Very concerning. I would welcome back Donovan with open arms for sure, but I'm also pretty much saying farewell to him as well. If he had any spine at all, he'd suck up his pride & do what needs to be done, but whatever his reasons, he's probably better off staying at home. We only want those who actually want to be here.

We could certainly use another quality player out there, that's for sure. I know it's a bit of a pipe dream, but they need to come out absolutely fired up on Tuesday and punch Mexico in the mouth EARLY and often. Figuratively, and slightly literally (I'm talking about you Chicharito).

Someone suggested under-soil heating at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, and I started laughing.

If the MLS was on the regular schedule, then yes, but the MLS isn't on the world schedule and plays during the summer. Under-soil heating would be needed for maybe two games a year for the Rapids.

I just wish we played Mexico here (Columbus) in the Winter instead of September. It wouldn't snow like tonight, but it'd probably be cold (at Crew Stadium).

If Colorado was a perennial playoff team, I think they'd consider it. But I just don't see them competing with the likes of Seattle, LA, San Jose, Vancouver or Portland in the West anytime soon.

That's exactly what we did back in '10 & it bit us hard at the end. Azteca is a place you need to be careful playing at. It's always completely worn our players out at the end of games & if we come out to fired up early, that could leave us dead tired at the end. I'd like to see us come out excited & amped up too, but also be able to perform late in the game unlike in the past. I'm just hoping the pressure to perform works against them & not for them which could lead to a very long night in Mexico City.

There are ways to beat Mexico, without completely gassing out. Hopefully the US team can accomplish that. Good possession and preventing the sudden counter will be the keys to success down there.

True, but the possession game is there style & they've always owned us in that regard. The only aspect we've every held over them is the sheer size differential. With Jermaine Jones playing, you can pretty much kiss possession goodbye, because he turns the ball over every other time he touches it. We just can't have such a huge gap between the midfielders & the forwards where we're searching for long passes just to get in there end, because that's going to spell disaster unless we get incredibly lucky.

Looks like Costa Rica are going to protest to FIFA about the game not being suspended. Good luck with that one. Where were those protests during the game ?

Well, it's FIFA. So with anything FIFA or UEFA, a large amount of cash, goods or Columbian "Bam Bam" should help with any decision.

You know FIFA, the people who award world tournaments without fully thinking about everything involved with hosts (like 130 degree heat).

Not sure Costa Rica has much to offer in those regards, unless they accept bags of urine as currency.

You never know.

Remember that delegate from Trinidad (Jack Walker) who wanted like multiple stadiums from Qatar for his vote for World Cup 2022? These bastards are all corrupt (FIFA, UEFA, you name it).

Think about how much kickback money Platini got for making EURO 2022 freaking 13 nations.

And Clint Dempsy should've done snow angels after his goal  (or wrote his name in the snow with...liquid).
