U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

Tuned in. Saw a Mexico goal. Think I’d rather get back to my spreadsheets.
Me trying to decide

The decision to start Sands (out of position) and Acosta at CDM tonight probably cost US a win. Acosta just didn’t look comfortable doing anything but passing the ball backwards, and Sands played fairly well overall, but struggled at times stringing the passes together in midfield. Had Aidan Morris started with Acosta, I think you get much better results. Morris looked very confident on the ball. Had a TO late in the game, but think that was more due to what he’s accustomed to playing with true attacking midfielders in front of him in Zelarayan and Matan. Tonight there was such a massive gap between the defensive midfield and the attack.

Also was not a fan of Sean Johnson, and it had nothing to do with the goal he conceded. He just had no faith in himself with the ball at his feet. If Mexico pressed, and the US passed back to Johnson, it was an immediate pass out of bounds or a punt into Mexico’s back line. I get their options were limited with this not being an international window, but the options tonight were rough outside of a few guys. Thought Long played well coming off a major injury. That back pass from Acosta wasn’t on him that led to the Mexico goal.

The US should spend a solid amount of time developing a solid attacking midfield option, because they seem to lack players in that role. Gio Reyna is probably their best option.

Hopefully the US Soccer Federation comes to a conclusion soon with the manager role, so they can get some closure, as well as start building towards 2026. I’m not sure Hudson is the guy, but he’s done a relatively solid job in his interim role. I don’t think they’ll bring back Berhalter at this point, even though I’m not sure he did much to warrant not being retained. Beyond that, I’m not sure which direction they’d go in. I’m not sure Jesse Marsch would be a great option, but his press attack could be fun to watch. Could also be an absolute shitshow.

No clue if this kid amounts to anything on the senior level but posting for the name…and a Lithuanian descendent kid from Stillwater, OK is cool.

Also, my good friend married a Lithuanian girl and that wedding was incredibly fun. They said the two things her people and his people from Indiana (now Chicago) had in common were basketball and drinking. Not wrong.

Yeah, big get. He's playing regularly and scoring regularly (it appears) in Ligue 1. Transfermarket has a 25mm value on him (which puts him in that Weston McKennie Brendan Aarronson level of value) For comparison, Ricardo Pepi who is playing and scoring regularly in eredivisie is valued at 9mm. I value the playing and producing over some dude that's a good looking prospect that's appearing in half the matches in 3 Bundesliga.
