U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

England, Iran, and either Wales, Scotland, or Ukraine. Won't settle that until June.

Wales will play the winner of Scotland-Ukraine, which looks like could be Scotland by default.

Don't count Ukraine out of it just yet, they sure look to be "combat ready" to play.

World Cup director warns rainbow flags could be taken away from supporters in Qatar

i

Dutch supporters displayed rainbow flags throughout Euro 2020 last summer.

Major General Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Ansari insisted that LGBTQ+ couples would be welcomed and accepted in Qatar for the Nov. 21-Dec. 18 FIFA showpiece despite same-sex relations remaining criminalized in the conservative Gulf nation.

But Al Ansari is against the overt promotion of LGBTQ+ freedoms as symbolized by the rainbow flag that FIFA and World Cup organizers had previously said would be welcome across Qatar's eight stadiums.

"If [a fan] raised the rainbow flag and I took it from him, it's not because I really want to, really, take it, to really insult him, but to protect him," Al Ansari told the AP. "Because if it's not me, somebody else around him might attack [him] ... I cannot guarantee the behavior of the whole people. And I will tell him: 'Please, no need to really raise that flag at this point.'"

Al Ansari is director of the Department of International Cooperation and chairman of the National Counterterrorism Committee at the Ministry of Interior, where he discussed World Cup planning for an hour with the AP.

"You want to demonstrate your view about the [LGBTQ+] situation, demonstrate it in a society where it will be accepted," he said. "We realize that this man got the ticket, comes here to watch the game, not to demonstrate, a political [act] or something which is in his mind.

"Watch the game. That's good. But don't really come in and insult the whole society because of this."

Just sayin': Yet another reason that Qatar shouldn't have been awarded the World Cup games......

Texas aTm fans don't follow soccer, so this should be a non-issue.

F, G and H are all a little bitchy but none stand out to me
I have to think G or H is as close as there is this time, just in terms of depth of the teams. A is a joke, France has any easy path in D, Germany and Spain should cruise in E. Belgium and Croatia should honestly breeze through in F as well.

Those odds scream Euro bookie who only thinks football exists within Europe. Scotland?! Get the fuck out of here.
Crazy but I can grab it on a couple books here. I don’t think $50 to win $350 is that bad of a play.

Maybe I’m too optimistic about this team (I love em) but I feel like they’re even with England. Take the toss up game there and bring on the other 2.

I agree. The only edge England has, IMO, is at ST. Outside of that I think the US is better at most other positions except maybe CB.

Really think Canada could surprise with a draw or two in that group. H could be insane. Can't wait to watch it all go down

Canada doesn't have enough guys to do real damage im a tournament like this. But they have a couple good dudes, and a couple more matchups that can make your life really shitty on a given day.
