U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

I also think Guzan needs to stay in goal for US. Tim Howard was phenomenal for the national team for a riduculously long time, but his age and the fact that he's jumped down from playing for the likes of Everton to playing in the MLS are clearly showing.
Need to find a fucking left back.

I wish guys like Yarbrough and Robles would get a look in friendlies. Guzan's form hasn't been much better than Howard's this season.

I don't think my opinion is inconsistent with the long view. I see making the World Cup right now a bit like the importance of a young college football team making it to a bowl game. The training and experience that takes place as a result is extremely valuable to the advancement of the program. I'm not convinced that Klinsmann is going to make that happen.
Which is fine till you hire Brady Hoke.

Look, you can't be for the long game, when the guy you have is playing the long game and you want to make a short term decision. So, yes, your view is indeed inconsistent.

Whatever happened to Fabian Johnson?

If I remember correctly he was released from the last national team camp. I haven't followed his play in Germany extremely closely, but have seen some of the goals he's scored. I would assume he's been playing more of a LM/RM role for his club, and wouldn't exactly be match fit to play at LB. I could be wrong, so don't hold me to it.

Well, to clarify I'm in favor of playing the long game *well*. Not the Klinsmann version where he plays players out of position and insists in the media that he's not, insists that he wants to exploit width and then sets up the team in a narrow 4-3-3, says he wants to get a look at young players and then calls up a bunch of Wondos, or says that he wants to play attacking soccer and produces teams that play dire, boring Tony Pulis ball.

That's fine. As long as you're being an honest hater.

Long game so long as you agree with it, fair enough.
