Oh definitely. Guy is always preaching on his pulpit. Made it that much worse. I mean, Taylor Twellman going after pretty much every player on the field about them not being good enough? Gross.
How quickly he forgets that Brazil is a perennial FIFA Top 5 team. United States, although they've made strides in the last several years, are no where close to even sniffing the top 10 any time soon. And I'm really not all that worried.
One thing that Bob Bradley failed to accomplish with the USMNT, is providing development at every level. Jurgen Klinsmann has played Jordan Morris, Bobby Wood, John Anthony Brooks, Julian Green, Aron Johannson, Gyasi Zardes, Bradford Jamison IV (really excited about him), and soon to be Gideon Zelalem (really excited about this kid). All of those players are younger than 24. What I'm trying to say is, Jurgan Klinsmann is in the process of a COMPLETE National Team rebuild. It's not just him, either. Tab Ramos (U-20) and Javier Perez (U-18) are right there with them in developing this talent. These youth squads are competing for World Cup titles, so the talent is definitely there. Now, it's just a matter of getting them all ready for the senior squad.
I think for competition, one of the two CB's still needs addressed. IMO, John Anthony Brooks has one of the spots locked up. We haven't been able to find another player to pair with him yet. I don't know if that player will come from within the youth system, or if Klinsmann will go and pluck another player from the International pool like he's already done so many times. If Fabian Johnson isn't playing Left Back, that's another position that needs to be addressed. Once you get those two positions solidified and get all four of those players (new LB or Johnson, Brooks, new CB, Yedlin) the defense will improve IMMENSELY.
Add to that, the fact that Brad Guzan (30) isn't even a poor man's Tim Howard (36)(honestly, I would hate to be a fan of Aston Villa...), and those two guys are getting up there in age. I'm pretty worried about who will replace them once it's time to hang up the International kits. William Yarborough (26) immediately comes to mind as a successor, but he's got some work to do before it's his job to lose. First and foremost, he needs to get the hell out of the Liga MX. The MLS is quickly becoming a great league to develop a GK, with all of this new found attack on literally EVERY squad. If not MLS, I'd like to see him get some interest from the Serie A (Italy) or Ligue 1 (France). Those two leagues are probably in the most dire need for GK's, IMO.
All in all, it's a work in progress. But he's shown what he's capable of as the USMNT manager, and the future is still bright. Anyone who is calling for his head as manager A) know nothing about the struggle of developing a national team squad from the ground up and B) they clearly have no desire to see the USMNT succeed any more than they did in the World Cup..
