U of Akron admitted to ICU, on ventilator.

The important thing is that Akron protected their football program.

Tens of people are breathing a sigh of relief today. And BTW, this is against a P5 team (Iowa State, and look how much maroon you see).

Seriously, SHUT. THE. SHITSHOW. DOWN!

A university actually cut a bunch of administrators. And almost three times more of them than of faculty. I know it's Beavis, but color me impressed.

If Drake were to combine COVID with his out-the-door-don't-giveafuck status to take the scalpel to our bloated non-faculty administrator list, it would make me smile. We're not in crisis mode financially, but why let a good crisis go to waste if it can provide the political cover to get some necessary shit done. I would also like to see some of the non-core academic colleges* get taken down a peg too.

*core colleges being Arts & Sciences, Engineering, Business, Medicine (which includes things like Dentistry, Public Health and Pharmacy) and Law.

In all honesty, I know that we don't have to streamline because of coronavirus, but I wouldn't mind seeing Ohio State use it as cover for goring a few sacred cows that use far more resources than they bring in, particularly the Ag and Education colleges. Streamline the university and focus on strengthening the core colleges that people are actually enrolled in: Arts & Sciences, Engineering, Business, Law and Medicine. I'm not saying that you can (or should) get rid of Ag or Ed, but at least shrink them down to a size and budget relative to their enrollment. When I was at Ohio State it was said that there were individual departments in A&S that enrolled more majors than the entire College of Agriculture.

I'd kill somebody for a distance BS in... anything... really. Why doesn't tOSU offer anything meaningful** in STEM?
Holding out some hope all this elearning will open doors a little.

**meaningful to me at least

And I'm not quite sure why the smaller conferences haven't moved in that direction already. I mean, the boys at places like Troy, Toledo, New Mexico State, Memphis, etc. have to know they're NEVER playing for a National Championship under the current structure. Why not split off in some way and compete against like schools for some other championship. At least you'll have a better chance of actually winning it, whereas now? Literally no chance.

I guess the world needs "Washington Generals" too.... Cause that's all the G5 teams are in the current scheme.

TV most likely. Things like top25 rankings and the bigger bowls... Memphis cracks those occasionally and I'm sure that creates a lot of "free" exposure and publicity. Scare quotes because there is a real, and very high, cost of maintaining life at DIA level.

Go on youtube there are dorm tours, etc.

They realize it's 2020... this was a thing ... over 10 years ago...
Uhh...Joel Klatt’s brain is broken. Wtf

He's gonna see it from the scholarship athlete's perspective... and from that blinkered miss-the-forest-for-the-trees viewpoint, he's got a point.
Empathy rarely did anyone harm... im sure it sucks to lose your scholarship.

2020 Akron Football Schedule

Sat., Sept. 5 YOUNGSTOWN ST. InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field
Sat., Sept. 12 at New Mexico State Aggie Memorial Stadium
Sat., Sept. 19 at Clemson Memorial Stadium
Sat., Oct. 17 UMASS InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field

Just sayin': They need to schedule more nonconference away games against "big boy schools" at (around) $2M* per game. They don't make any money playing YSU, NMSU, or UMass.

* Ohio State Will Pay $1.95 Million to Connecticut, $1.9 Million to Ball State for Non-Conference games at Ohio StadiumGames at Ohio Stadium in 2025, 2026.

There's Clemson right there ? How much are they paying?

Michigan damaged you... He's a major color commentator who LOVES the Bucks... a huge OSU fan...

*Fox Sports color guy who knows what side his bread is buttered on.
He's not always been so kind to us...
But I'll take the friendly propaganda given the ESPN treatment this century.
