U of Akron admitted to ICU, on ventilator.

It will be real cutting back if the five new colleges cut their required 25%, which is to be determined. I'm not a math wizard, but if the university is supposed to cut a total of 20% and the colleges are cutting 25%, doesn't some area of the university get to cut less than 20%? They must have gone to the same management schools as the hospital adminstrators who are cutting pay for frontline healthcare workers but not cutting their own.

I'm not sure Kent State wants them;-)

Sounds like sports and non-faculty administrators are the sacred cows. That will surely lead to a more prestigious university and some nice marketing for new students

Amen. Further, there is no reason we shouldn't be competitive against all G5 conferences. It was just 5 years ago we had an 8 win season, which was just a few years after the Coach I disaster. We won a bowl game against a good Utah State team. We were in the conference championship. We have beaten P5 teams.

Now isn't time to panic, but action is necessary. We just need to keep in mind most G5 schools are in the same financial predicament we are. We need to work with them to chart a better path. We aren't living in the Gilded Age. All of us need to make smart decisions. It's been a while since we have done that collectively.

Yet there are people on the zips forum prattling on about "academic nerds" using the virus as an excuse to take their sports away. For one thing, I don't know how many actual academic nerds are on Akron's faculty anymore. I'm pretty sure it's largely non-tenure part timers and adjuncts by now. Shut the shit show down.

In all honesty, I know that we don't have to streamline because of coronavirus, but I wouldn't mind seeing Ohio State use it as cover for goring a few sacred cows that use far more resources than they bring in, particularly the Ag and Education colleges. Streamline the university and focus on strengthening the core colleges that people are actually enrolled in: Arts & Sciences, Engineering, Business, Law and Medicine. I'm not saying that you can (or should) get rid of Ag or Ed, but at least shrink them down to a size and budget relative to their enrollment. When I was at Ohio State it was said that there were individual departments in A&S that enrolled more majors than the entire College of Agriculture.
Couldn't agree more, and I would expand that to include the MAC as a whole.
As mentioned already, I think it would be wise to reduce the CFB role that they play (maintain CBB at the present level), evaluate what the top 3-5 programs are at each school, develop a consortium, and then consider tuition costs aligned across the conference.

Just announced cuts for three teams there. Men's XC and Golf and Women's Tennis. Somehow cutting these three sports will save the school $4.4 million as they represent almost 25% of the athletic department's budget. These seem like "inexpensive" sports compared to football, but what do I know.

upload_2020-5-14_13-20-49.png I would've guessed cutting these 3 sports would save about $812 ...
Everyone in the athletic dept should be fired... spending 25% of the entire budget on 3 sports which provide ZERO revenue is obscene... so far beyond stupid ya can't get there

2020 Akron Football Schedule

Sat., Sept. 5 YOUNGSTOWN ST. InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field
Sat., Sept. 12 at New Mexico State Aggie Memorial Stadium
Sat., Sept. 19 at Clemson Memorial Stadium
Sat., Oct. 17 UMASS InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field

Just sayin': They need to schedule more nonconference away games against "big boy schools" at (around) $2M* per game. They don't make any money playing YSU, NMSU, or UMass.

* Ohio State Will Pay $1.95 Million to Connecticut, $1.9 Million to Ball State for Non-Conference games at Ohio StadiumGames at Ohio Stadium in 2025, 2026.
