I once gave my mom a side eye and mumbled under my breath at her. That was august of 1979. I was 9. It was a checkout lane of a K-Mart around 10am.

I woke up around 3pm in my bed not remembering how I got there or why my cheek was swollen or why my jaw hurt and I could taste blood.

Never back talked that woman again.
