2025 TX CB Dorian Brew (Oregon Signee)

I have a family member that assisted him with the recruiting process. It’s not a good look for OSU.

But I get it. Their strategy isn’t to pay out the wazoo for HS talent. But you can’t explain that to people and have it make sense when another school they’re interested in is offering the world.
thanks for the response.

It just doesn't make sense, IMO, to pay HSers so much, when many of them won't be competent contributors for several years. And that kid could be gone by the time he starts to hit his stride. I'd rather pay what Offord wanted on a Portal lineman(either side). Idc if a kid is a 6star, he's never faced talent that's stronger, as fast with better technique. I'd love to see the spring practices where the former high rated players go up against the backups, who were also former high rated HS players. I'm sure Bryson Rodgers, Ballard and Inniss have put some poor frosh on skates in 1 on 1s

Exactly. I totally understand their approach. Even if they miss out on some guys they shouldn’t, it makes sense. Will I always agree with it? No. But I understand it.

Some people you just don’t let get away.

Believe the whole idea has spiraled out of control. Upfront NIL, plus backside portal costs are kinda stupid. But for deep pocket teams with mediocre teams, almost mandatory (ie Colorado, A&M). Always thought it was a 4-year scholarship, but have since been dissuaded by reality. Some teams use these funds to buy players (duh), and then have a one year 'show us' try-out, and then are cut. Perform you re-upped for another year, and not-so-good, it's find somewhere else to play. But, one cannot really know what's behind an 18 year old's motivations. Yearn for the days when buying a kid a meal, let alone leasing a car for him/her, was grounds for NCAA's wrath. Guess SMU was just ahead of it's time (double probation - called the Death Penalty).

SMU wants penalties and fines back. Lol

Sounds like OSU needs to step up their NIL game. Again. Sometimes you have to pay for a lesson. Something I learned in the land of lawsuits. In this instance I think the cost of losing the top two in-state defensive backs in this class is greater than what it would have cost them in NIL funds. A person’s perspective is their reality. And the perspective of recruits and coaches in Ohio will be that OSU doesn’t prioritize Ohio recruits, or takes for granted that Ohio kids will always pick OSU. I think they easily could’ve matched any offers. And they should have, just to prove a point. Lesson bought.
