Two Luke Fickell Threads

I said this in one of the threads, but it can probably be said here as well.

I see 2 DC threads on Fickell now. This one is 125 pages and labeled "Co-DC / Assistant Head Coach Luke Fickell (official thread)", and the other is 114 pages. The other one is labeled "DC Luke Fickell (official thread)." Both have been started by the same person on the same day. Odd. Probably needs to be merged. Maybe a DB issue?
 
@ant80 They appear to be the exact same thread for about 113.5 pages or so. Merging the threads would mean every post would be doubled in the combined thread for 227 pages. Not good. One of the threads hasn't been active for two years until it was bumped today. I locked that one for now so we'll be back to one active thread.

Thanks for pointing this out. Its a weird thing to see, and maybe somebody with a little more know-how than me will know why it happened or if making changes to it will cause other problems.

At first I thought it was a DB issue. But now I am thinking it is a display artifact. Some piece of code somewhere takes what is only one copy of each post in the first 113.5 pages and displays it twice. Of course, I don't know the internals of BP and could well be wrong, but it is a very curious behavior. I'd like to hear about this from Clarity if possible...

edit: If my theory holds, merging won't break anything, but will fix it. Still definitely need to make sure to hear from Clarity before doing anything though.

My best guess is a hiccup back when we did the migration. With a few million posts and a few gigs of data, I wouldn't be shocked if that were the case. I checked, and the thread and the duplicate posts within each had unique ID #s, which is to say that the system saw them as distinct. I saw someone locked the smaller of the two, I've moved that to the reference locker for a distant future deletion.

The other possibility (since the smaller one had an ID that would have been assigned after or during the migration) is that a mod or admin went to move it or change the original, and accidentally copied it instead.

Either way, good catch, we should be okay just setting the smaller one aside.

I think the two threads are legit, as there are two Luke Fickells. There's the bright up-and-coming Luke Fickell that has coached Hawk, Laurinaitis, and Shazier -- the guy everyone wants to be the head coach after Tress is gone. And there's the other Luke Fickell, the one that apparently bumped his head two years ago and became dumb overnight. He's the one that everyone is apparently cool with pushing out the door, and some have even offered to buy his plane ticket to Boca Raton.
