...not a creature was stirring, not even a ... um ... pomegranate?
Sorry.
So look, here we are, about twelve hours away. I had a checklist of things that I felt needed to get done before we got to this point, and that just didn't happen for a variety of reasons, but the important thing is we're all here, a new season is upon us, and I just want to say I'm happy and excited to be rolling into a new one with each of you. Let's all pretend that sentence has no comma issues.
We're coming off a two-game skid, managed to have an off-season scandal with the band (wut?), have major questions about a few critical phases of the game (secondary, LB, OL, RB, QB -- you know, the unimportant positional groups), and obviously lost one of the most dynamic players in the game to a lingering shoulder issue. And so? We're still Ohio State. We're deeply talented, have a terrific coaching staff, amazing fans, and a rich online community with so many wonderful options when it comes to sites and blogs. We're spoiled, and I say that with nothing but positivity -- because I choose positivity. That's something I learned when I was an All-American TE in the 70s or something. Maybe the 80s. That's not important. What is important is this is going to be a fantastic season, and there's no way I'd rather supplement that than by reading and interacting with you nuts. I don't care about the experts, I don't care about what fans of other teams have to say; I know I'm going to get all angles and perspectives here, and I'm looking forward to that.
BP isn't a content factory, we don't have a radio or television presence, we're a community forum in an age of mobile social media. I don't know what that means in terms of, well, anything -- but I do know that I still find enormous value in my extended family here, and it means more than I can adequately express that a number of you feel the same.
So thanks! So much is going to happen and change over the next few months, and it all starts (officially) tomorrow afternoon. My two favorite college teams take the field together in a contest to decide which one stays my absolute favorite (there's really no contest at all, of course). Exciting stuff. Here's hoping none of it is TOO exciting. We're all getting a little gray around here at this point, aren't we?
