Then the announcers were talking about fair catching, or causing a untimed down with a fair catch...saying that Arizona tried it and did it last year. They lost me. Does anybody know what the hell they were talking about?!?

You could punt the ball thru the uprights for 3 points???? Or does it have to bounce off the ground first?Yeah.
If you fair catch the ball as time runs out. Your team gets a "free" kick attempt from that spot. The other team has to stand 10 yards back from the LOS (so they can't really block it). The kick can either be a FG or a drop kick/punt. 3 points if it goes through the uprights.
Arizona Cardinals tried it from 68 yards last week. Didn't work.

I answered my own question...it has to be a drop kick, not a punt. I don't know why anybody would do a drop kick. Is this rule in the NCAA too?
