For posterity...and giggles (link)
Five years ago, JD Johnson lived in Canada and was unsure of his future.
The quarterback’s father, Dave Johnson, was drafted by the BC Lions (CFL) as a linebacker and later coached Division II Simon Fraser University for seven seasons until 2013.
Once Johnson left the program, JD moved with his father and mother to the United States. Their family ended up in Phoenix, Arizona.
Without a strong knowledge of Division I football in the United States, Johnson crossed the border and quickly recognized Michigan as a powerhouse program.
On Dec. 21, the 2020 three-star pro-style quarterback from Pinnacle High School committed to join the Wolverines.
Johnson was offered by Michigan on Dec. 6, unofficially visited on Dec. 15 and committed just six days later. He said coach Jim Harbaugh’s desire to compete for a national championship was apparent.
“On my unofficial, I just had a better feeling about where I would fit in, the academic piece and the resources available to athletes to develop to be their very best,” Johnson said.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound has offers to Michigan, Arizona, Colorado State, Oregon State, South Carolina and UNLV. He said he will never quiver from his commitment to the Wolverines.
“My commitment to Michigan is 100 percent,” Johnson added. “There are always factors that will change, but that’s the place where I want to be.”
Johnson plans to get an education and play on the field to the best of his abilities under Harbaugh. His other goal is to take down Michigan’s archrival – Ohio State.
“I can tell you that I am a loyal, hard-working guy,” Johnson said. “My goal is to do everything in my power to beat Ohio State.”
As a quarterback, Johnson knows one of his jobs is to become a leader and develop the trust of teammates. He looks forward to developing relationships through recruiting and then in Ann Arbor.
“I love creating relationships,” he said.
Johnson is ranked No. 742 in the nation, No. 35 at quarterback and No. 20 in Arizona, according to the 247Sports Composite.
