Michigan fans are indeed the kings of bragging/arguing about success when the Ottoman Empire was still alive.
The Ottoman sultanate ended on November 1, 1922, but the caliphate was not abolished until March 29, 1924. Let's use the later date as the final death of the Ottoman Empire.

Now let's look at various CFB teams' success from 1869 (first CFB game) to 1923 (last CFB season of the Ottoman Empire):

Team-Total wins-Winning PctNat'l Champ
Michigan249.7986
Notre Dame195.8081
Nebraska192.7340
Texas191.7820
Penn State187.6592
Ohio State182.6530
Oklahoma140.6870
Alabama134.6460
Now here's how those same teams have fared since the end of the Ottoman Empire (1924 to 2018):

Team-Total wins-Winning PctNat'l Champ
Alabama791.74714
Oklahoma756.7327
Ohio State740.7528
Notre Dame723.71312
Texas716.6874

Stupid question time... most of those NCs were retroactively handed out, IIRC ??
What's the # for ones awarded contemporaneously ?

Anything awarded before 1936 (first AP poll) is retroactive. The UPI (now coaches) poll started in 1950. Michigan has a grand total of two AP championships (1948 and 1997), and zero UPI/coaches poll, National Football Foundation (NFF, started in 1959), or Football Writer's Associations of America (FWAA, started in 1954) championships. All eight of our national titles have come after 1936:

1942 (AP)
1954 (AP)
1957 (UPI, FWAA)
1961 (FWAA)
1968 (AP, UPI, FWAA, NFF)
1970 (NFF)
2002 (AP, BCS, FWAA, NFF)
2014 (AP, CFP)

Those fucktards claim an AP NC in 1997 by the way: https://bentley.umich.edu/athdept/football/misc/natchamp.htm

CFB data warehouse gives it to them as well: http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/national_championships/nchamps_team_results.php?teamid=1977

Note:
  • We just celebrated another "century season" for them. The 1918 NC is now over 100 years old.
  • Five years to go for the next one. Pressure is on, Jimmy.
  • 8 of the 10.5 NC's were handed out retroactively
  • 5 of the 10.5 are over 100 years old
  • The most recent full NC is 70 years old

1/2 a NC in the past 70 years

North Korea, Israel, Porsche, Scrabble, Velcro and the Random Access Storage device were all founded/invented in 1948

A loaf of bread cost $.14 cents

A tank of gas cost $.16 cents

1948 was also the beginning of the last US polio epidemic, peaking in 1952.

So remember folks, this national championship for TTUN is so far distant in history that some people today have convinced themselves other contemporaneous events didn't even happen. The holocaust wasn't real. Vaccines don't work.

You know what? TTUN has only ever won 1/2 of one national championship in their history. Change my mind. Prove me wrong.

You mean 1947.

The AP itself doesn't recognize Michigan as the (an) AP national champion for 1947, so we can scratch that one off the list.

The NCAA does not award FBS championships, but it does recognize them. Here is the official NCAA list: LINK

Michigan has nine recognized national championships (1901, 1902, 1903, 1904, 1918, 1923, 1933, 1948, 1997), only two of which were during the "poll" era (1948, 1997).

Ohio State has eight recognized national championships (1942, 1954, 1957, 1961, 1968, 1970, 2002, 2014), all of which were during the "poll" era.

Who has more national championships? Michigan 9, Ohio State 8

Who has finished #1 in the final poll more times? Ohio State 9, Michigan 2 (Ohio State has 5 AP titles, 4 coaches titles; Michigan has 2 AP titles, 0 coaches titles).

Berlin Airlift began. Truman defeated Dewey. The first color newsreel was shown in theaters.

TTUN won its last full natty.
