Damn. Just took a look at 247. They have one OL commit, who is rated in the 700s.

Only one other OL prospect is listed who is not "cool" towards UM and he is 100% CB'd to Washington.

Take a moment and try to imagine OSU being in that position at this point in the recruiting cycle.

Wow. Just wow.

Just to emphasize this further, on mgoblog’s most recent recruiting board breakdown, there is a ridiculously large number of prospects listed under every position, indicating a general lack of understanding of what the priorities actually are, but OL in particular has an absolutely bonkers 24 players listed as targets.

To me this is a sign of nascent self-awareness, at least among the recruiters.

I'm so old that, when I was dating, night clubs were still a thing. I knew going in that I was going to have to identify about 40-100 of the loneliest and drunkest that were also showing signs that they might be in the "receptive" portion of their cycle. Sometimes the night would go ok, sometimes not, but my self-awareness and my willingness to take no for an answer and move on were my only chance.

Some guys have to cast a wide net. Some guys are Ryan Day. It helps to know which you are.

That's what I've been saying. They seem to have reached a point where they realize going up against the big boys is largely a waste of time, so they rarely bother.

The longer they hold on the Harbaugh the lower its going to sink too.

Them going like 8-4 (8-5 with a embarrassing bowl loss to a mid level SEC team) would be the worst thing for them. Its enough to keep Harbaugh around at least another year, but not near enough to gain any traction with recruits.

Which is understandable, and probably a good move on their part. But....

In the past five weeks, Michigan has lost recruits to Wisconsin, Tennessee, Nebraska, North Carolina, Michigan State, Baylor, and TCU (x2), not exactly the "big boys" of CFB.

I would fully expect that bagman excuse, but it is far more likely NIL. Think about it... old timers like me remember scUM as a force in the B1G and a national player. The last two decades they've been neither. For the kids being recruited now, scUM just is another also ran program. Which is to say, if I'm a D-I caliber CB with a bunch of instagram followers... what "brand" am I going to ant to go associate with, the one I've never heard of or the one that's in contention for the CFP every year?

C'mon bro. You don't think children of the 21st century understand the impact of a late 19th century brand?

I think you are underestimating the kids. It was only, what, 100-125 years ago? Brands don't fade out that quickly. That's like saying they wouldn't know the difference between an Edsel and a Packard.

I'm sure it's just all of those young guys they brought in to jump start recruiting finding their footing.
